Just to fill in any missing details - its meet at Burnelee at 12.30 as they like time to get everyone organised and on horses. Ride at 1pm. Have those driving checked out the map on burnelee.com.au? Remember to bring cash as they do not take cards, - if you get caught up you can call Burnelee on[masked]

I don't mind driving, and can pick up anyone on the way from Fadden.
Alternatively if anyone is keen to give me a lift, that would be cool as well. :) I could drive & meet somewhere convenient and give some dollars for petrol, as I'd rather make the trip with company if possible ......

What time is everyone planning to get there. Is it meet at 12.30 or is that when the ride starts?

Hey! Burnlee would like to start figuring out if they can invite others on our ride or not so if you are still keen let me know and tell me about your riding experience and your height/weight - you can send me a private message if you like. I'll be out of town next week but I promise to also put up another time for riding somewhere else as I know many of you can't make it on 17th. Kathleen - they do have some boots available, or you can ride in anything with a solid heel, but let me know your size and I am sure they can fix you up.

I have details so far for Daniel, Diego, Deb, Kathleen, David, Melissa, and Catherine. Gareth and Rach have also sent me details but it looks like they aren't RSVPed now. Lyn, you should be OK to come at this stage. Can anyone else who hasnt given me details send them through tonight (Monday) or if you aren't on this list remind me... we do have a max of 12 attendees.

Can anyone who has not sent me their details for the ride or who doesn't intend on coming please change their RSVP to NO. Thanks

Still hoping to get a final decision on the wonderful horse riding excursion being organised... The posting says they can take 12, but 14 are scheduled to attend. Can they stretch the group to 14, or do we need to volunteer to opt out this time and wait for next time?
I also forgot to ask if we can car pool. I am in McKellar which is on the way out to Murrumbateman if anyone would like to pick me up and share petrol costs.
I also forgot to say that I am 157cms and 62kgs, though this is more important for the horse riding than the car pooling ! : )

I'm interested, though it looks like you may have too many numbers already. I can ride a horse slowly, but am keen to get better. 183/87. Cheers!

OK folks, we have a tentative booking at Burnlee for 17th November to ride from 1-3pm but we need to be there at 12.30. We need to firm up the booking a week or so before, but they can take up to 12 people depending on the mix of sizes and experience. I'll put more of the details in shortly but to commit you need to tell me you weight and riding experience (you can send me a message privately if you prefer) and the cost will be $80 in cash (no card facilities).

Hi there, just joined this group and would love to come along to this if there's still room. I'm about 60kgs and have a moderate level of experience - many years of riding as a kid but haven't been on a horse in about 10 years...

Left a message with Burnlee. If I don't hear back soon I'll call Forest Park and see when we could ride there.

OK, well we seem to have plenty of interest. I'll call Burnlee and see what date we can book in for then post the details. I like the idea of rotating through the various options. On another note - does anyone know of companies that run good trail bike or 4WD adventures? Those could be great activities too!

  • Quari

Gareth - the different places have different rules, I can check if you like what the limits are. If you are experienced and balanced it shouldn't be a big deal but for a beginner you need a horse that can cope with your weight not being well balanced.

So we have some options for where we go - let me know your preferences here in the comments. 1. Burnlee
http://www.burnelee.com.au/ - out past Hall, 2 hour ride is $80, run regularly on Saturdays through native bush and pastures. This place has good horses and they are great at handling a group with different levels of experience, however I guess people might not want to go for this long or pay this much.

    2. Forest Park
http://www.forestparkridingschool.com/trail-rides.htm - basically in the middle of Canberra, 1 hour ride $40

    3. NEQC
http://www.neqc.com.au/riding.htm#trailride - out past Mt. Stromlo but not too far. 1 hour ride $60

    4. Somewhere further away like up in the Snowy Mountains...

    Any other suggestions or comments?

Thanks Quari for organizing this and getting all the info. I would prefer to cycle thru each option, if we are going to do this multiple times. For a one off ride option 1 looks good. But again if we have enough interest for the "Snowy Mountains..." then count me in for that.

    • Inge

Either of the first two options sound good to me. I've never ridden a horse, so a longer ride may prove uncomfortable for a first go, but I may be willing to try if that's how others want to go.

    I'd be interested. :)
