In the year of Canberra's 100th Birthday, let's step back in time for the day and view a few historical sites along the Settlers Track in Namadgi National Park.
We are very lucky to have John Evans from the Canberra Bushwalking Club joining us for this walk to point out various points of interest along the way.
We will meet at the Namadgi Visitors Centre, sort ourselves into cars so we take the minimum number of cars into the park, and then drive about another half hour or so south into Namadgi National Park to the car park at Brayshaws Hut. This is where the walk will commence.
The walk itself is about 15km long and is fairly flat (total climb is 250m throughout). We will be stopping to look at various things along the way so it will be a full day outing. You just need to be confident about your ability to walk 15km. Keep in mind that it will be March, so it is quite likely that the weather will be warm to hot.
A list of places and things we will see on the track is on John's blog here:
What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, appropriate bushwalking clothing, backpack, at least 2 litres of water, your lunch and snacks.
Car pooling: If you have space in your car, or if you would like a lift, please indicate this in the comment section below. If we can get away with taking as few cars as possible on the day this would be great for the environment, and car pooling is also a fantastic way to make new friends. John lives in Duffy, so any of you south siders can make your way to his place in Duffy on the day, he is happy to give you a ride. Just a note re car pooling - it is up to the driver whether or not they accept money for petrol but it is etiquette for the passengers to offer.
You will be required to sign a waiver on the day, a copy of which you can read on this meetup site (located under more on the top, black, menu; then click on Files and select acknowledgement of Risk and Obligations). I will also be taking photo's on the day to be used for marketing purposes on our websites and facebook etc, so if you are on the run from the law or your ex husband and don't want your photo published be sure to let me know.
