Mt Taylor walk

Meet at Mawson shops car park in front of Woolworths. We will then make our way through Farrer on the shared path onto the Farrer ridge line, and follow the paths across Athlon Drive, past the horse paddocks and then use the path up the southern slopes of Mt Taylor. The return will be down the northern side until we pick up the path on top of the drainage channel, and back along the NE flank till the exit leading down through Pearce past the high schools. The walk is around 8.5 km and will take 90 - 120 minutes. Dogs permitted on leads in the two reserves (Farrar Ridge and Mt Taylor). Coffee somewhere in Southlands afterwards for those so inclined.

Hi all, I clearly didn't leave with enough time to spare as I've been held up by the road blocks and detours involved with the marathon being run today and it looks like I'll miss the start time. Apologies, I'll make sure I'm there next time - have a good walk.

I'm carless at the minute and live just on the other side of the reserve! If anyone could swing by and pick me up from Manneheim Shops in Kambah I'd be very grateful :)

Cheers George - can you pick me up outside Manneheim shops at, say, 7.40am?

There is a path that goes from Athllon Drive towards Mt Taylor between Melrose High and Marist. It goes all the way to the Reserve, if that helps get us off the main road. Cheers, Desley

Thanks, Desley. I had planned to come back that way. I have in mind a combination of shared path and the nature park at the back of Farrer on the outwards leg.

Doug, Can you please host this event. I am flying out to Qld now on this date. I will be unlikely to be regularly around in Canberra until late-Nov 14.

Ian, have you considered making this a circuit, and returning down the north or eastern slopes and back down through Pearce? An alternative to walking up Athlon would be to do a slightly longer walk up along the back of the Mawson playing fields into Farrer, and walk a bit of the Mt Farrer Nature Reserve as well as Mount Taylor Nature Reserve. I think all that would still be around 8km, and might have a bit more variety in it.

Sounds good. How about we decide on the day?
