Hopefully the luck of the Irish will be with us this Sunday and keep the rain away - perhaps at the end of the rainbow will be sunshine! With that being said- let’s embrace the possibility of rain and hike! Walking in the rain can be fun when we are together wearing green!
We will meet behind the Suntrust Buildings off of Semmes Ave (before the Manchester Bridge entrance). Turn on 12th Street (or there is an un-marked street that should be 10th that has a blue sign in the grass that says "Suntrust Mortgages") and go behind the buildings- we can park along the curb. Mapquest isn't completely clear- so look for the buildings and go behind them- we will be standing outside our cars.
We will meet there and take off for the back of Belle Isle. We will hike around the Isle and check out the river views and then cross the pedestrian bridge. We will make our way around Brown’s Island and down the canal walk a little ways- hopefully we will hear some Irish music from the back of Sine before heading back across the river to take some of the floodwall and then to our cars.
There will be two bridges on our estimated 4-5 mile walk. I will try to keep us out of muddy areas, but please be prepared for wet areas when picking out your shoes. We will walk in the rain- unless it is a complete downpour and/or thunder and lightning, at which time I will cancel at noon by posting a message on the hike page and send an email to members that have signed up. This is an on-leash walk and all dogs (even our sensitive fur friends) are welcome to join in. It will be a pretty flat walk with wide trail areas for space, if your dog needs some breathing room.
We are thrilled that folks are enthusiastic about joining us on our hikes! Please understand that we can only accommodate a certain number of folks and pups on a given hike. Our group sizes are limited to ensure that we can effectively manage each group. You are welcome to RSVP with a guest (or two), but if the hike is filled up, please respect our limitations. There are more hikes on the way, you won't be left out!
