Weston is excited to be back on the trail and has suggested that since the water level is low enough, we need to make a trip over to Scheaffer Island! This is a great secluded spot for clear water swimming so bring your long lead so your dog can enjoy some water time before the summer is over!
This is a starter hike and we will cover about 2.5 miles. While it is shorter in length, it is high on adventure! We will meet at Forest Hill Park and head out to the back of Belle Isle and straight down to the river. We will jump the rocks that lead us over to the hidden island. The rocks are close together for easy stepping but we will teamwork and help grab leashes so everyone crosses safely. Once on the island, people can determine how far out on the river they want to go to let their dogs swim around. We will spend about 20 minutes there playing and enjoying each others company.
Once the dogs are good and wet, we will jump back on the fire road and head back to Forest Hill Park and up the eastern trail to our cars.
Please wear trail shoes that you don't mind getting wet - no flip flops. The hike will be on-leash, but if conditions permit, dogs with good recall may be able to go off-leash for swim breaks. If you have a long leash, you may want to bring it for the water breaks, but no flexi-leashes and no leashes that attach to your body.
IMPORTANT: Please review our page on General Hike Information before you RSVP (http://www.meetup.com/CanineAdventure/pages/General_Information_for_All_Hikes/). This will ensure that you're ready to attend one of our hikes!
