The next Lake Zurich Social Kayaking & BBQ Meetup

The Event: This will be now the third event of its kind and something quite different from the courses we normally run at Hightide.  As an expat myself, the aim here is to try and create a real network of people who can get out paddling together, and get into the sport, whether you're new to the sport or a seasoned white water kayaker, there's something for everyone and that's what brilliant about the sport.

We're really keen for people to also use the group to run their own events, to go down and rent kayaks from Greifensee or Schmerikon for example or for white water paddlers to meet up and so these meetup & BBQ days are also social events, where we have the BBQ running, people can try it out, meet each other and generally enjoy a nice day out by the lakeside.

Please note that the equipment will have to be shared out during the day and people have to take turns out on the boats. Although you can come and go as you please generally the afternoons are much busier than the mornings so it is worth getting here early.

Time: between 10:00am and 4pm

Meeting: parking after Seestrasse 284, 10mins walk from SBB Uerikon towards Rapperswil

Nearest train station: Uerikon on lines S7 and S16

Contact: Dave on[masked]

Bring along:

• Food for the grill and drinks

• Swimming Stuff, flip flops or old trainers for on the water

• Waterproof jacket depending on weather

• Generally Sun stuff... you burn quickly on the water, especially if you have English skin like mine

• Change of Clothes

• Any paddling kit you have (We will be bringing our stuff which will be available to share through the day)

If you have your own boat, bring them along as the idea of the day is meet like minded people and get a paddlers network up and running.  For those without boats, I just ask for a contribution for the equipment and organisation for the day of CHF20 (18Euro) per person.

If you'd prefer you can also make the transfer to our bank account but please note that your RSVP will only be added manually after payment has been received.  If you choose to pay this way, please send us a quick message to say that the money is heading our way, cheers.  The details are as follows:

Hightide Kayak School GmbH, Unterpfand 2, 3818 Grindelwald, Switzerland
Bank: PostFinance Ltd, Mingerstrasse 20, 3030, Bern, Switzerland
IBAN: CH[masked] 6557 3
BIC: POFICHBEXXX
Clearing No: 09000

NB. As places are limited, it is necessary for these events to have a cancellation policy, This states that if you cancel less than 5days before the event there will be no refund.  We also need to have a minimum of 10 people for us to run the event, otherwise everyone will of course receive a full refund.

Thanks again for joining the group and I look forward to meeting you soon,
Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Dave for the day. Back to one of my passions, the red boat was my personal favorite. And thanks for the lift to Stadelhofen railwaystation! The concert was quiet good and funny to sit in the water/rain again.Hope to see you again.

    Hi Dave,

I woke up with a headache. I took some medicine, slept a little more, but I still feel dizzy. Could be the pressure fronts that I feel.

    Sorry, I have to cancel.

    Kind regards, Thomas

    Hi Dave,
I have an inflatable GUMOTEX SEAWAVE, bought only a few weeks ago, and interested to join the kayaking event on 12 July. Please kindly confirm that it is OK and that you will add me to the attendee list, before I can reserve a room in a hotel. Also If it's OK I will pay upon arrival, another option is to pay with credit card. please advise.

    July 3, 2014

    • Dave S.

You're most welcome to join and the money is actually a contribution to the equipment so you don't have to pay just come along. I'll add you on the list, cheers and see you then

hi, I am interested but it depends on the weather. If dry and not too cold, interested. I will only sign up a week before if ok.

    June 24, 2014

    • Dave S.

That's absolutely fine but we can't guarantee a place if it was to book up before then. This isn't so likely but we will have a maximum number on the water of 12 at a time and that the total for the day would be 24 people.

      June 24, 2014

  • Jo

Hi, I'm hoping there's one of these in August, as I'm out of the country for this one. Shame!

  • Fidiana

Hello Dave and everyone. Have been wanting to try paddling for a long time. I'm really looking forward to this meetup. :-)

    Hi Dave
is there a chance to pay on the day? or pay a bit closer to the day?

    June 17, 2014

    • Dave S.

Both would be fine, but we can't guarentee space with the kayaks. We only take a max of 28 people sharing the 14 boats... Of course it's always fine to just come along for the BBQ

Why to pay in Euro? First, we are here in Switzerland with its Swiss Franc and - just a minor detail - 18 Euro were more than 20 CHF.

    June 14, 2014

    • Dave S.

Hi Thomas, Unfortunately the meetup profile only supports Euro and US Dollar payments and I thought at least Euros would be a little closer to home... About the 18euros, yes it is slightly more but this covers the paypal transaction cost, I end up with 16.77euros and works out today as CHF19.87. If you'd rather make a bank transfer for CHF20, I'm more than happy to refund the paypal transaction. I'll add that payment option above and then I can manually add you to the RSVP list. For this event, payment is however a prerequisite to RSVPing, as I have to bring a lot of equipment over form Interlaken for the day, and it has to at least cover my petrol costs and a contribution towards the kit. Just let me know if I can help any further and I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks time,

Thanks for the reply. Don't worry. It's not about the money. 20 CHF is more than fair. It's the currency, the Euro.
If possible, then next time I opt for the bank transfer in Swiss Francs.
