Hometown: Tainan, Taiwan
August 1, 2011
Wow the list will rattle on...! Cedar on Kloof (Lebanese), Vandiars (Durban Indian), VIVA Cafe (Tapas), San Julian (Mexican), La Case Tropicale (Seapoint), Chuck Yang (Taiwanese)... I am always on the lookout for hidden gems!
Everything- I've even tried Mopane worms! I love food prepared with love, from family recipes generations past; fresh local produce; experimental fusion...
Taiwanese snacks from Tainan City - my hometown! Steamed meat dumplings, Dan-dan noodles, Turkey rice, Winter melon tea, Oyster omelette.....
Off the beaten tracks places: Cape Town suburbs, Township communities, up along the West coast and all over.
On Chinese new year, my entire family used to gather at my Grandmother's house to share steamy hot pots. There will be endless platters of food: sweet baby corn, fish balls, thinly sliced pork belly, quail eggs etc, all to be cooked in a hot broth prepared since early afternoon. We will share myths, family stories and dreams over dinner as we welcome the new year.
Hi everyone~ I am passionate about the "untold stories" of food makers & creators, because we often forget that we are dining in someone's "dream"... I love meeting new people while discovering Cape Town's hidden gems and delicious food!
