Spring Primer Paddle on Six Mile Waterworks

For those of you who have not been paddling all Winter, dig those kayaks out early this year!

We will launch into the lake, go under the Northway bridge and head into the North branch first and then the South branch.

Hopefully, those huge turtles will be out looking for some warm sun...like us!

Cookout after?

Bring WARM dry clothes, socks and towel in a dry bag as the waters will still be cold and we need to always be prepared for unforeseen "dumps". They have inexpensive supplies at Walmart...in fact, the Walmart in E. Greenbush has a huge selection of boating/kayaking gear....paddle floats, lights, bilge pump, etc. See photo of phones/camera case, bilge and paddle floats.

Remember....the park is probably going to be crowded so let's try to tighten up our parking if you cannot carpool...double or triple park if you can if the extra parking lot isn't open.

You might want to bring your wheels in case we do not have close access to the launching area. Don't worry, we have lots of strong people coming!

I hope to launch on time so try and be prompt...you will know where to find us on the water and can catch us as we enter the West branch if you are late.

So great to see the core group! No one can call us fair weather friends, literally. Actually, I thought the weather cooperated quite well. Thank you, Sharon, for organizing. As always, I had a spectacular time.

Looks like I wasn't the only one determined to get on the water today...it was fun from the minute we started to put in until we parted from Panera's....every stage was slow motion and filled with festive chatter! -by the "characters" as Kathy put it.

Dreary day was brightened by a great group of people and a pleasant paddle.

Good to meet you and Lisa. See you at whatever that paddle/peddle place is. When are you posting it?

You are right, Craig....friends can make a bad weather day seem bright!!!! I loved how chatty and social it was...before, during and after!!

A bunch of characters. What a lot of laughs we had, followed by, what else, but food! A good time had by all, and I missed seeing those that were put off by the weather, but I know we'll all catch up soon.

My head count was more like 12 than 24. For those who singed up and didn't show, I hope you tip over the next time you go out!!! It is no harder to take your self off the list than it is to sign up.

Looks like I won't be able to reinstall my Hullavator before Sunday, so I'll have to bow out. Looking forward to a future paddle!

I strongly recommend carpooling and let's also double park in the parking lot.

Hi! Would it be okay to come meet people for a picnic after the paddle? I would like to meet group members and get some advice on purchasing my first kayak.

    April 16, 2014

    • Sharon

Of course. In the meantime, check out our sponsors at Mountainman in Saratoga and Adirondack Kayak Warehouse in Amsterdam...they both have great advice and prices on beginner kayaks that could fit your needs forever. We like the Pungo 120 a lot.

I am in the process of refinishing my kayak. Hope the weather continues to hold out so that I can apply all the coats of vanish and paint before this paddle. Hope to see you all again.

Sorry I can't make it. I am running in my very first 5K race that day.

Signs of spring!!! I hope we are blessed with the same weather as last year!
    Picnic?

I assume bringing a canoe is OK? I usually paddle solo, but have plenty of room for a paddling partner if someone needs a ride.
