Monday Morning Paddling

Monday Morning Paddles are hosted by Dick and Judy Clark of Ballston Lake.

Please abide by their instructions and requests below. Directions to each location are listed the end.

From Dick and Judy:

Here are our paddles to get us through May.  Please plan to be totally off-loaded and in the water ready to paddle at 9:45.  If you like, bring a picnic lunch for during or after the paddle (optional).  Unless you want to let us know that you are going there is no need to respond by email about whether or not you will be paddling - just show up.

Rain and/or high winds will cancel the paddle and if the weather looks possibly threatening, check your email and we will try and get an email out by 8:00 that Monday morning if (and only if) the paddle is canceled.

For using the Google maps links below to get driving directions, just enter your starting address into the block in the upper left and hit the enter key..

When I responded to a "Good to see you" it went to a site of paddler participants that included a picture of Kiki. Kiki wasn't exactly in paddler gear, and no one I've ever seen on the water. Wonder if this may be the work of the culprits that crashed the site a few months ago. Wasn't offensive; couldn't help but chuckle. Just saying . . . . .

High water disguised the launch and there is rebar sticking up at the put in. To avoid the rebar, I mis-stepped into 3' of water. A knight in shining techgear, aka Dick, tried to help and suffered the same fate. The sun was shining though and a good time was had by all. Thanks, Dick.

And, I thought she was teaching us the proper technique of a wet water exit--which I thought she executed quite well. And, Dick was showing us how not to empty the water out of a boat.

Turned out to be a beautiful day for an early season paddle. Good turnout; fun group. Thank you, Dick. I always look forward to your Monday Morning paddles.

Sharon, I checked your map location for this paddle. It was a "little" off. Dick is a genius at getting the locator map right on. We always called the Waterford put-in First Street (Albany Chapter ADK), but apparently there are two, and Google recognizes the other First Street-no put it there---really.

I wouldn't have noticed except for Jo's comment. We're putting in where we always put in, across from Peebles (one street down), right?

      April 24, 2014

    • Jo Z

Joy, yes. At the end of 'First Street'--you take a right just east of the bridge on Broad Street. See Dick's google locator above. The '1st Street' Sharon listed is in the middle of a trailer park. Had to chuckle at the the thought of surprised residents seeing a bunch of kayakers parked on their street--not to mention the surprised kayakers!

I am ready, unfortunately the kayak won't be, I am refinishing it and having a few problems...everyone enjoy
