Safety & Rescue (Instruction)

We are rescheduling this class, originally posted for Monday, July 28, due to weather.

This course is all about being able to take care of yourself and other people in your group when they are in trouble. Learn multiple ways of: 1) getting yourself back in your boat after a capsize, 2) getting capsized paddling partners back into their boats quickly and safely AND 3) getting weak or incapacitated paddlers to shore or a safe area. For part of the session we’ll work on variations of self-rescues and assisted rescues, as well as scoop rescues. Then we’ll switch to the multiple forms of swimmer rescues (back deck & bow carries) and towing including contact tows, in-line tows and rafted in-line tows. If you want to be a serious and safe paddler, you need to have command of this stuff. This course will be an intense and wet session.

I agree that this was a very helpful class. The instructors were very patient and friendly. I would definitely take this class again! Thanks again!!!

Great job Chris. The Pungo is a popular and stable boat - just makes it harder to work with in rescues. Install some perimeter lines and floatation in front and you will be ready to enjoy time with your son.

It was one of the best classes ever! I wish they had classes like this 15 years ago when I started kayaking. I would recommended this class to all kayakers, experienced or new. Mike & Alan were great instructors and very patient with us.

This was an awesome class with great instructing & instructors! I feel bad for them that 18 people signed up and all but 3 of us backed out. On the other hand, I'd like to think we got more and longer personalized training. I would recommend this class to anyone. I have been kayaking on my own for 15 years and I wish they had classes like this back then. Thank you Mike & Alan!

Glad you were one of the lucky ones to learn from Alan and Mike. People need to be more serious about the commitment of signing up for these professional lessons. Not showing up is unacceptable.

It was good to see people, but only 2 of the three who came were Meetup Members. Most of the others canceled, but a couple were no-shows. It was the third scheduling of this meetup - 2 others were canceled due to weather, so maybe some folks forgot to cancel. We did have one who has been a no-show for 3 different classes - with no notification. We even called and left messages, but no response.

Hi All - The weather is pretty questionable for the time of our class this evening. We are going to postpone until this coming Monday, same time and location. I will call each of you to make sure you get the message.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
