UPDATE:

Grafton Lakes State Park is nearly full for our volunteers for this event, thanks to all of you!  If you'd like to help with parking, we have a few shifts available, but if not, just come enjoy the day! Guided hikes, live animal and conservation/nature exhibits, a Polar Plunge and many other fun activities are part of the event.  Attached is the schedule portion of our event brochure.   If you can't read it here, feel free to visit our website for a PDF copy: http://nysparks.com/parks/attachments/GraftonLakesExhibitsEventsforthe28thAnnualWinterFestival-January192013.pdf

What a fantastic day! We had a new record with well over 2000 people attending over the course of the day. It would not have been possible without The Capital District Volunteers so thank you so so much! You all were amazing and went above & beyond what was asked of you. I had to invent new volunteer tasks to accommodate so many helpful people!! For an album of some pictures, check out http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.565767733453202.141846.133816116648368&type=1
Please share your own if you have any! Thank you all again and I'll do my best to "pay it forward!" Best
    Liz

Yes. Now, is that a whistle that sounds like a duck or is it a whistle that looks like a duck?

I am not even sure where and when people will be volunteering. I am in the crafts area from 11-1. You can be sure I will be inside or near a fire. I think I could be easily talked into an early dinner (4ish)afterwards if anyone is interested. There's a great place on Rte 4 which most people will be near on their way back. Exit 9 of I-90. Let me know.

Doesn't eating dinner at four-ish make us seem kind of old. Early bird special for the blue hairs.

Sharon, can we set up a central place for our volunteer group to meet up with one another if we would like to do some socializing once our shifts are over or before our shifts start?

I'll be driving from Saratoga, if anyone would like to share the ride. I'm planning on getting there first thing, around 10 am, and my shift starts at 12 noon. Let me know. Thanks.

Thank you to all of you who are volunteering. We're so glad to have you! When you're not doing your volunteer shift, there will be plenty to do at Winter Fest, indoors and outdoors! Okay so I'm new to the group and this would be my first event. Do you need to have experience in face painting or the nature crafts in order to work those areas? If so, I could do something else... Ms. Liz - could you send me the event schedule in an email? I'm unable to open it here. Thanks!

    Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for volunteering! This is going to be a blast.

I have another job available for a couple people. The snowshoe obstacle course's construction!! Depending on snow conditions, this might be a good one to setup the night before, but hopefully folks can do it in the morning. It's our first time doing it and we can make it as silly as you want! Jumps, rolls, crawling under streamers, running around goofy obstacles, all while on snowshoes. Folks will probably just compete for their own personal best and we'll try to give them a free goodie for participating. Depending on the design we come up with and how easy it is to maintain, I may need people to mind the course as well from 11-2 or so. If you haven't signed up for a specific job yet, please drop me an email ([masked]) or call me at 279-1155. I'll be putting out the schedule of events soon so you'll know all the fun you can have for the remainder of the day. Thanks all!
    Liz
