New Year's Eve First Night Saratoga-Volunteer & then Party for Free

UPDATE: First Night originally told me they needed 12-15 and we surely have that. They are still calling for more so I left the rsvp out there for those of you who are still considering joining us. Some of us may be asked to go cover some venues that are short of coverage. I hate to tell some of you that are enthusiastic about the kid activities but I think our main job will be just handling the foot traffic, answering questions, checking for badges....however, if you have face painting talents, who knows, they might be glad to have the help.

When the shift is over, everyone may be going their separate ways to go see a variety of venues. I have my three picked out and anyone is welcome to follow me. The Tartan Terrors, Johnny Cash Tribute and Captain Squeeze. You can look at the schedule at the following link.

Be sure to get to our venue by at least 5:45 to check in and get familiar. I can't wait to do this with you all!

The Director of volunteers for First Night needs some people to cover a shift from 6-9PM. The venue is at Empire State College and will include lots of kids events like facing painting, etc.

Each volunteer will receive a free First Night badge entitling free passage to all events, and a free First Night Poster.

I attended the training session. It basically covered safety issues and the chain of command. Apparently, we will all be given name tags with contact information which will be very helpful. I think we should get there no later than 5:30 to get parking,  familiarize ourselves with the venue and ask questions. They would like to know the first and last names of each volunteer beforehand so if your name is not clear on the website, please send it to me soon. There is a Volunteer Handbook which you can access at the following website.

It should be a fun night and at least we know we will be inside where it is warm! Can't wait to do this together as a group!

Hey all. I live across the street from the Saratoga Arts Center, so can pick up the posters for anyone who would like me to. Please let me know this week, and I will give them to Sharon when I see her next, and you can get them from Sharon at the next event you're at. Since Sharon attends about 20 meetup events each week, it's likely all of us will see her sometime soon at some event.

Thanks for the offer, Eric...that will be great. There's been a death of a close childhood friend so I may be laying low a bit.

Sharon: Although new to the area and to the Volunteers, I quickly recognized and have come to appreciate all you do for the community and for your various Meetup groups. I think you can rest assured that we will always have your back. Thank you for all you do.

As some of you know, I was a little on edge when I arrived. And getting "promoted" without my knowledge ramped that up a bit. But thanks to all of you, I felt safe and in the BEST of company! I am forever grateful to all of you continually!

This was one of the best New Year's ever! All of you made it enjoyable and special. Having Betsy and the Bygones playing in our venue was an added surprising coincidence/icing on the cake! Saratoga Arts was very grateful to our big turnout! Special thanks to Brian and Mike for being "floaters"!

I thought that I had given my name as a volunteer for tonight. Evidently, I didn't based on my view of those listed. In the event I was listed, please give my slot to someone else as I have to work a a shelter tonight. Sorry. Have a Happy New Year all!!

I will be there no later than 5. I have been told I can get the buttons early so we can listen to Betsy and the Bygones before our shift....she is a Meetup member. Great oldies! Make sure you have my number. 269-7970. I am going to try and park on or near Union Ave which is Exit 14.

Hi Sharon. I'm in the same situation as Tina. I'm running the 5k and would like to help as well. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

  • Tina M.

Sharon, I would love to volunteer but is there anyway I can help later. I am doing the Saratoga First Night 5k at Skidmore. The run doesn't start until 5:30 PM.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
