May 5, 2012 - 9 went

Shooting NYC Skyline then Dinner overlooking the Harbor to NYC

I went back the next night to the same spot. Kevin was there as well. We stood for over an hour frozen and totally baffled - still no moon! Finally, around 9:15 PM it appeared. Awesome!!!

Ya' did good! As I calculated the moon is approximately 60 feet in diameter in relationship to the empire state bldg. For those who want to know how to determine it's relative size to the subject take the tangent of 1/2 degree and multiply it by the distance you are to the subject (bldg). The moon rises later by a little over an hour each day and the position changes close to 5 degrees. Thats why the moon is not right over the empie state building. Since the moon rose later, you had to take at two exposures: one to get the city illuminating properly, the second for the moon. We missed Sunday's lighting for the perfect combination. We'll do it again next month. I'm glad everyone had a great time. Even without a moon rise all of us got some great images. I'll post the venue for next month cheers, John
