What: Civil Disobedience at Capitol Power Plant on Capitol Hill

When: March 2

RSVP here:

The Capitol Power Plant, a dirty old coal plant on Capitol Hill, is a glaring symbol of what is wrong in Washington, DC and our nation at large. On March 2nd, join fellow CarbonfreeDC members and thousands of others to rally at the coal-fired power plant that powers the U.S. Capitol Building.

As individuals, there are numerous ways we can take action to tackle climate change. You can attend CarbonfreeDC workshops, educate yourself at our fieldtrips, participate in our new Low Carbon Diet Program or write your senator. Each of these are important. Rallying at the Capitol Power Plant on March 2nd is one more powerful way to demonstrate to your representatives and the world that we are serious about climate change and that we want--we need--action now.

To be clear, this rally will be an act of civil disobedience. Our intent is to block off access to the Capitol Power Plant by surrounding the entrances, peacefully refuse to leave when asked, and safely disrupt its operations for the day. If by doing so we risk arrest, so be it. We must demand climate justice now to avoid the worst effects of dangerous global warming in the future.

We will meet at Spirit of Justice Park, C St. and Capitol St SE at 1pm and march to the Capitol Power Plant.

Please invite your friends to this historic, important event and RSVP today.
