Riesentoter-PCA Poconos was a great event, unfortunately some of us made our instructors ill with our excellent driving skills :) they were saying the track had too may twisites for them

    September 13

    • John (aka j.

That's pretty funny, not that they got sick but that there were too many twisties! There can never be too many twisties, never!!

      September 17

    • John (aka j.

But it is different when you're in the second seat!

      September 17

  • don s.

Riesentoter PCA were great hosts. They are very professional and friendly. If you want to really improve your driving skill you must take advantage of their $100 one day rate and attend a session. Check out their website!

  • Lisa B.

This event was off the charts. Beautiful fall weather, friendly people, awesome Porsche's, and an amazingly well run event! Highly recommend future events with PCA!

    September 13

    • don s.

I could not agree more...very well done indeed! Great company as well, really fun time with Lisa and Ed.

      September 13

  • John (aka j.

Hopefully you are all tucked and you won't see this until morning. Hope you had sweet dreams of hitting the apex and exit every time!
Weather still looks good for tomorrow, but just in case I am adding one rather big offering right after midnight!
    Be well and be safe.
Remember you paid to use the pavement, use all of it!

    Don't forget a folding chair...I almost did

    September 10

    • Lisa B.

Glad you said that! I didn't know we needed one. Gave the brakes and steering a good test this morning avoiding a last minute deer that was trying to rain on my parade. The third time this year that the Mini's superior braking and handling avoided a deer/car collision. I would have had all three of them if I'd been driving the CX-9...

      September 11

    • don s.

That would have been unfortunate...I will also credit your lightning fast response time...to be tested at the next level tomorrow!!!

      September 11

  • don s.

OK...Blue is as ready as she will get...cleaned out and ready to go...just need to pack my clothes etc. Radio is charging, GPS mounted...I'm looking forward to our run up tomorrow...see you around 2:00 at MickyDs, Linglestown near 81.

Friday continues to look like a great day for this event.

I have a few new "offerings" for tomorrow and Friday, be sure to check the event photos!

All teched up, ready to go, sorry John got injured before we got to run

Am on the wait list for SP...NJ is the weekend we are in NC-TN for MSTSD..so we will be driving the twisties!

      September 10

  • Lisa B.

Any thoughts on departure plans yet? I'm scheduled down at Otto's on Saturday for tire M&B, 4 wheel alignment, and tech inspection, so I'll be ready to go!

    September 2

    • Ed M.

I think for protection they both have hard heads and if the worse case happened there is not much in there

      September 9

    • John (aka j.

Ed, are you calling K&B airheads, really? Sure, they are self centered, and even a bit vacuous in their outlook on life, and all they do seem to care about is how good they look, and are their tans just the right shade of Cafe Ole, and yes when they appear to be in deep thought it's about the water level in the hot tub. Hmm, it appears that "airheads" may be a bit generous. OK, I retract my objection. Be safe!

      September 9

  • don s.

    Then there were 4!

    September 2

    • John (aka j.

      Now they are 3. :~/

      September 8

    • Lisa B.

That sucks! If it's any consolation, I had surgery for a torn meniscus right after MOTD this year (put it off to be sure to be able to drive for MOTD), and I was back at work and driving the Mini on the fourth day after surgery. The immediate intense pain from the tear became pretty easily manageable about a week after the tear.

      September 8

  • Lisa B.

Btw, the tech inspection at Otto's Mini was free??? The line item was Mini CCA tech inspection at no charge. Anyone know if this is some deal the dealers have with Mini, or a specific perk at Otto's? I didn't notice until I got home that it was a no charge item...

    September 7

    • John (aka j.

So Lisa, the CCA inspection was a separate line item, did you also have the state inspection done?

      September 8

    • Lisa B.

The CCA inspection was a separate line item with a description, and I did not get a state inspection done at the same time. I did not buy the tires from them, but I paid them for the mount & balance and 4-wheel alignment.

      September 8

  • Lisa B.

Tires, alignment, and tech inspection done today for me as well. The new tires ROCK! It's like a different car...

    September 6

    • Lisa B.

Dunlop Runflats, 205/45ZR-17 SP Sport 01 DSST BMW. The old Mini came to me with Dunlop Runflats, and I really liked them, only to be beyond sorely disappointed in the Contintinental Extreme Contact Runflats that came on the new Mini. These Dunlop Runflats are amazing; I can feel every change in the pavement through the tread, and the ride and noise level is phenomenal. Definitely not Run-hards! Of course, I got a great deal at $225 each - list price on them was $349 each. I guess they save the good runflats for the BMW's!

      September 7

    • John (aka j.

Did you get the tires through Otto's?

      September 8

  • don s.

OK...track prep almost complete...alignment this afternoon...we meet (2:00 PM Thursday) at the MickyDs off Linglestown Road per the map I sent last week. Questions? I think I need to send an email to Ken and Barbie, are they in or out?

    September 6

    • John (aka j.

How do you like the FSD shocks?

      September 7

    • don s.

To early to tell...I really think this weeks track event will be the key to my evaluation,

      September 7

  • John (aka j.

Is anyone thinking about hanging around for Saturday?
    Inquiring minds need to know!

    September 2

  • don s.

OK...I've spent some time looking at the RTR Porsche Club site. There is some really good information regarding understanding the dynamics of high performance driving. Here is a link to a good read (Drivers Education Manual).

    http://rtr-pca.org/index.php/activities-side/drivers-education/drivers-education-forms

Included is a form for a vehicle safety check, as Lisa pointed out, we should all use the form and have our MINIs checked by qualified techs before the Track Day. If you haven't signed up yet (PAUL) now is the time.

I am putting on an extra layer of clear adhesive mylar on the headlights and factory fogs, and the other lights will be sporting covers...inspection due on the 11th @ Swedish..and maybe new brakes and rotors if they arrive in time...

      July 31

    • John (aka j.

I have a roll of clear adhesive shelf covering..put a couple of pieces over the lights...not worried about pretty or smooth the MINI is so not aerodynamic a few wrinkles won't matter! ;~)
Am willing to share if anyone wants...

I bought 205/45ZR-17 Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST BMW, Run Flats. As much as I hate the Continental Run Flats that I have now, I like the concept, and I really liked the Dunlop Run Flats that I had on my old R53, so fingers are crossed that I will like these as well.

  • Lisa B.

I got this back from Kevin regarding the tech inspection requirement:

    Lisa,

Since you are more than 25 miles out of our region, you can go to the dealer of your marquee or any ASE certified shop to have the tech inspection performed. The shop must fill out the RTR Tech Inspection form that can be found on our website, http://rtr-pca.org/
You need to also bring a copy of the receipt showing the work was performed.

I asked around, but it appears that none of us are familiar with any of the shops in your area. Sorry.

Look forward to seeing all the Minis.

    Kevin

    July 31

    • Lisa B.

Cool! I was wondering who we had ASE certified in local independents. My ex had to have ASE certification when he worked at a dealership, but he let it lapse after he opened his own place. Expense and aggravation not necessarily rewarded at the independent garage level...

      July 31

    • John (aka j.

      Tom, where is Jeff's shop?
