Carlsbad Village Morning Ocean Swim

Our swim group meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning for a swim in the ocean.

Directions: Take I-5 to the Carlsbad Village Drive exit and head west.  Follow Carlsbad Village Drive to the end and turn left on Ocean St.  Drive straight 1/4 mile into the parking area.  We'll meet near the park and walk down to the beach together.

Meet at 5:45, toes in the water at 6:00.

We enter the water and swim together through the breakers.  Then we head north or south, then loop back.  The total swim distance is 1.5 miles for the fast folks, distance will vary on your skill level and all levels are welcome.  Everybody gets a swim buddy.

It is definitely getting lighter every week now.  Lights are optional unless there is a serious cloud cover.  A simple glow stick is plenty, or if you want to get fancy get a RoadID Supernova from www.roadid.com.

Like a pickup basketball game, it was shirts, I mean suits, vs. skins this morning. 7 on 7. Peter was "the lucky fourteenth" who evened us up on the skins side. Dawn brought a friend who seemed to enjoy herself. I swam past three trees with Tonya and Matt, who kept on going down to Tamarack, yeah! I came back with Joe, who must be wondering where this Kurt character is who got him sucked into the madness and then skipped town.

Oh, yeah, the conditions. Nicely glassy, a few big waves every now and then, but not much for Kevin or Carl to catch, although I caught (got trounced by) one myself on the way back in. The temperature was very erratic, although the general trend seems to be a gradual lowering with time. No marine life unless you count Lone Wolf, who was actually friendly at the shower. One of these days I'm going to ask for his name... There is a rumor going around that a culinary angel may bless us with parking lot breakfast burritos this Thursday...
