Our destination is Akyaka, a delightful Turkish village, unspoilt by tourism, nestling between mountains and sea on the West coast of Turkey. Read what other members have said about this trip at end of listing. See lots of photos of the area by clicking on 'PHOTOS' in the tool bar and selecting the album relating to this event.
You will have your own spotless room with air-conditioning, marble floors and plenty of storage space in lovely location - nature reserve, river and sea in front, and mountains behind. We stay in apartments ( two bedrooms) so share living room bathroom and kitchen with just one other member. Apartments have a balcony or garden. Use of two swimming pools. Breakfast at tables in the shade by the pool. We stay in a three storey traditional style apartments (no highrise buildings allowed in the village) and all buildings are in traditional Turkish style - lots of decorative woodwork, marble etc. Peaceful place - no building work allowed between May and November!
I have reserved a couple of one bedroom apartments, so if you prefer, I can arrange an apartment to yourself for £90 extra (not applicable if couple are sharing)
What to do there ...
Enjoy lazing by the pools or beach, walks with beautiful scenery, sandy beach, warm water, boat trips on a crystal clear river which is a wildlife sanctuary - many species of birds, turtles, otters etc. Eat at shady restaurants along the river, beach front or in the village itself. Enjoy live music in bars in the evening.
A five minute stroll takes you into the village centre where you can find supermarkets, smaller shops, chemist etc, wonderful designer jewellery (at low prices) and a little market selling fresh produce daily. There is an art gallery with exhibitions changing weekly.
A highlight is a full day boat trip around the islands, included in holiday cost, where you can swim to small islands, or just laze and sunbathe on the boat. We stop for a couple of hours moored at beautiful Cleopatra's Island (where you can walk ashore) with protected beach of pearl like sand, (imported by Mark Anthony for Cleopatra according to legend) turquoise water, ancient amphitheatre surrounded by olive trees - a heavenly place. We hire a large boat capable of seating 200 for just 20 of us, sunbeds on upper deck, toilets on board etc and two course lunch, cooked freshly for us on board by crew. All included in holiday price.

Massage - there is a superb masseur called Duane, 20 years experience, who according to people who have been on my trips before, does the best massage you are likely to experience. He brings his own massage table to your room and is a very spiritual person absolutely trustworthy. He will only do three per day (lasting an hour - so book early to get two or three in!!
Duane - best masseur ever!
Included in holiday price ...We like to arrange a BBQ by the pool on the second night when everybody has settled in - this is actually a sit down meal with tablecloths and flowers on tables and - a good opportunity to get to know others in the group.
We can visit Mughla, a village in the mountains, with the largest market selling everything under the sun, visit a 700 yr old Hamam (Turkish baths) and visit old Turkish houses. £2 on bus!
Please don't feel you have to go round in a large group - we all need chill out time! I will show everyone on their first day where the main places are that you need to know and then the choice is yours. It is perfectly safe to 'do your own thing' as this is a crime free area. In the evenings on previous trips, members tend to get together in small groups to eat out.
Everything that you eat or drink from the pool bar is put on a tab which you do not need to pay until the end of the holiday and they prefer to be paid in GB pounds sterling. Favourite drink there isEfes beer which has to be experienced and Raki - go easy on this! Everyone is always amazed how little the bill comes too - which makes a change from London. You can check your bar tab at any stage.
Our hosts The apartments are family run by husband and wife, Muammer and Vieda and staff. They are delightful people who can't do enough to please and never, ever, rip anyone off!! The whole village is like this - lovely friendly people and you will not be hassled to buy anything - totally different to touristy places. The apartments are thoroughly cleaned and bed linen and towels changed every third day, and bins emptied every day. Pool towels are also provided so no need to bring any.
Muammer and Veida who own the apartments and look after your every need - lovely people!
You will need to take some Turkish Lira. There are no banks in the village but there are four cash-points if you need extra. Please takes some GB pounds sterling too, to pay bar bill at end of hols.
Temperature - hot enough for sunbathing and swimming by day, eating outside at night.
What to bring - just casual holiday clothes, swimwear, waterproof shoes or flipflops, sun lotion, hat, mozzi spray for early evening, sunglasses and camera - that's about it!
Washing can be done for you within one day -£5 per bag.
If you'd like to do some drawing/painting recommend compact watercolour set, pencils, rubber and sketchbook. (Best to carry paper in hand luggage because of weight and put paints in hold luggage).

An absolute haven of natural beauty and tranquility with interesting and varying excursions to local places of interest. Wonderfully looked after by the hotel owners, excellent cuisine served in the local restaurants and really great group. Really enjoyable art classes and thank you Julia for all your organisation - this trip gets the thumbs up for the 2nd time! Clare H
A really fantastic holiday with some lovely people. For me it was the right balance of relaxation with activities I loved, especially those boat trips, even the one where we got stuck in the reeds! Great food, lovely apartments and pool in a relatively un-spoilt part of Turkey. Thanks Julia your knowledge of the area and the opportunities really added value to the whole trip.
A fantastic holiday, which was truly idyllic, and a piece of paradise. The company was good, food, restaurants, excursions, beaches etc etc. The trip was well organised by Julia thanks once again.
This was one of the most fun holidays that I have ever been on. I met some wonderful people. Everybody was warm and friendly. I have not laughed so much in ages, it was fantastic. The food was wonderful and so were the Turkish people, especially our hosts at the apartments. Great weather too! I loved that we had the option to hang out with the group or do our own thing if we preferred to. Julia was delightful as usual and made sure that we were all looked after. Great value for money.'
Fantastic!! Great gang of people, lovely accommodation and beautiful views.
‘Thank you for organising a really fabulous holiday. I enjoyed every moment of it and feel totally rejuvenated. Akyaka was perfect – small enough to get to know (with my sense of direction that’s a real bonus!) but with plenty to do and see – great restaurants, colourful local market, a lovely beach, fairytale river teeming with wildlife (sitting in a quirky waterside café beside its crystal-clear waters watching kingfishers, otters and entertaining ducks was quite magical), and let us not forget shopping! It was lovely to have great company on tap whenever needed but with no compunction to join in, if you wanted to do your own thing. The accommodation couldn't have been nicer and Muamer and his family were so helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome. Thank you also for organising a few trips – just the right number. Ephesus was stunning ( I was amazed by how much of it was still standing and you really got a feel of how it must have been) and I loved the hamam experience.’
‘This holiday exceeded all my expectations… the place was spotlessly clean, the owners couldn’t do enough for us, the food was delicious and the scenery spectacular – I certainly want to return one day…’ David
‘I just wanted to thank u so much for all the organizing you did in Turkey. You certainly made the holiday so enjoyable for everyone ...It is such a beautiful place - certainly I never expected to find such a peaceful setting, and the coastline is so untouched. I really enjoyed meeting all the 'new' arts link members I didn't know and think we all enjoyed each others company and look forward to seeing them all again.’
‘I fell in love with Akyaka – everything about it. Thank you for a wonderful time, in fact my best holiday ever! ’Rachel
‘ I think the boat trip was one of the most enjoyable days, I was completely bowled over by the beauty and tranquility!’
