Chelsea Guided Walk - the Highlights

The Chelsea Highlights Walk

Meet Gary, historian and Chelsea expert for a very interesting guided tour of the fascinating borough of Chelsea. Meet at 1.30pm at the fountain, Sloane Square (opposite Sloane Sq tube station)

Chelsea guided tour  £8 - to be paid on the day.

Sunshine forecast. Yay!

  • The walk....

At Sloane Square; gateway to the King’s Road, we linger a few minutes to take it in the feel of this most fascinating borough, the greatest theatre ticket bargains in the city, Peter Pan’s demise, the sexiest steel ‘swing’ architecture in the capital; and all in the presence of London’s ‘cathedral’ to the Arts and Crafts Movement.

And we have not yet begun to walk!

John Le Carre found the perfect home for his man Smiley near here, and English ballet owes more to Tolstoy on the King’s Road than we might think. While Mary Quant was running up togs to style the next century, Humphrey Lyttleton gleefully pulled pints for fun between BBC broadcasts at their local.

The King’s Road; home to the moving image, 60s fashion, music, theatre, and the people with the ideas to shape our world. Oh!. And why is it called the King’s Road? And how can this tiny urban village accommodate the largest private garden after Buckingham Palace?

From Tudor to Turner, Whistler to Westwood, or Betjeman to the Beatles, with Chelsea born Gary as your guide, the borough unfolds its peerless parade of people, places and events, that literally shape the C21.
