Foreign Film Festival: Amour

  • February 7, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The first film in the CC Arts February Film Festival is, "Amour." The movie starts at 7:30 but plan to arrive early!

The description:  An octogenarian couple’s bond of love is severely tested as the woman battles the effects of a stroke and her husband attempts to honor his pledge to care for her in the home.  A deeply moving story of undying love.

Dinner first anyone?  Harry's, Raphael's, O'Lordans.  We would have to eat at about 5:45 in order to get seats together since the theater fills up insanely early.

Tickets are $6 per show for non-members and $5 for members.  (Membership is $25 a year, I believe.)  The Foreign Film Festival series of films is $20 (non-members) or $15 (for members)for all four films in February on Fridays.

I really enjoyed dinner at O'Lordans. I have been thinking about the movie all week. It was very powerful with so much symbolism and very thought provoking.

Me too. It had lots to ponder but it really was deep and depressing. But excellent!

It sounds like a good time was had by all. I am really sorry to have missed it. I had my car all packed with an overnight change of clothes and was ready to join you. Then at work, I learned that a co-worker was having heart issues, was in the hospital (still is), and I was asked to work later. I wanted very much to see the film due to the subject matter. I'm glad you all got to see it. Perhaps I can track it down sometime on Amazon or Netflix.

Judy B... As mentioned in my emails. I have my ticket via online and hope to make it. But, this weather has got to calm down soon, or it will be hard for me to get down there. It should be a good film. Won't be able to make the dinner in any case. On another subject, I'm pleased to say that my fellow composer and long distance friend, Laura Sullivan, won the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album: https://www.facebook.com/craigwilliamdayton

Diners, please note that O'Lordan's advises a 2 hour window for dinner for a party of 10 ,so we definitely have to meet on time (5:45) and get our order in. I'll scoot out early if necessary. Probably would help not to order appetizers. Just a suggestion. Parking will be sparse near the theater at 7 so consider parking near the movie and walking down to O'Lordan's. They are doing separate checks and adding a mandatory 18% tip. So you won't need to do math as we race to the theater. This should be fun, and will possibly be the calm before the storm as snow is predicted both Saturday and Sunday. See you on Friday.

Dinner before the movie: 5:45pm at O'Lordan's. Please reply to this message before Feb 4th if you will be joining us for the pre-show meal! I'll make reservations on the 4th. I recommend parking at the lot next to Harry's and walking down because the better parking around the Arts Center will be full by 7pm or so. People arrive very early to these shows. I'll get my tickets ahead of time, probably this week. Also: a reminder that you can purchase wine and snacks at the movie. Merci!

Would love dinner @ O'Lordan's before show. Good pick. Friend and I dined at Rafael's before "The Sessions"--food good, service terrible. But we made it to movie on time. See everyone on 2/7 @5:45

Yes, purchase tickets in advance if possible, plan to arrive by 7 to purchase a ticket. Looks like first show will include dinner at O'Lordans. I plan to park by Harry's and walk down and back. Will get reservations for 5:30 or 5:45.

    January 8, 2014

  • Tricia

So we purchase our own tickets in advance, right? Best to not wait until that night? (Just double checking).

    January 8, 2014

  • Lyn W.

I'm in for dinner anywhere but partial to O'Lordan's. Are we looking at 6 PM for dinner? Which date are we talking about?

    January 7, 2014

  • Cheryl B.

I always like O'Lordan's... We would have to make a reservation if we want to make the movie in time..

    January 7, 2014

  • Donna R.

Food a bit more imaginative at Rafael's & O'Lordan's, but Harry's has edge for convenience to Arts Center. I could be happy w/any of the three. Count me in.

I vote for dinner before. Still relatively new to Westminster so I'll leave choice of restaurant to others.

I'd like to attend The Sessions on 1/17. Would also be up for dinner before show if group wants to do.

Judy, Sounds interesting and fun. Can we sign up to come w/the group for individual films?

    December 23, 2013

    • Judy B

Donna, I think I've posted two of the four films, more as a place holder than anything. If the films are better on the other nights I can change the dates or simply add the other two. I really enjoyed both films I saw last year. Will add titles after Jan 1st when I get them. You will still have to purchase tickets from the arts council which you can do ahead or that night, but either way it's smart to arrive 30 minutes early as the seats fill up fast. Hope this answers all if your questions.

I will sign up later, love to attend this event

Barbie and Jill. I don't know what the line up is but I plan to attend them all so thought I may as well make them a meetup event. They usually choose winners. In the past, we gave gone to dinner first, or had drinks afterwards in Westminster. I'll update when the films are announced.
