Although its nearly impossible for me to contemplate walking on the bike trail, this becomes a necessity in winter. I have snow shoes to lend, bring your trekking or down hill poles as I don't have many poles Newbies are more than welcome as this is more a frolic in the snow than a serious expedition. optional Lasalles lunch, coffee after. We will meet at the Burling parking bike trail parking area and proceed north and back. Im bringing my son & friend & you should too. anyone got a dog?

I checked some spots & it doesn't appear that riding is viable

I think the trail is still going to be covered in slush on Saturday. Looks like the chance for light showers Sat afternoon. If we're just going to meet for lunch, let's change the time to something more lunch-time-like. If everyone wants to try and ride in the slush, let me know. I will bust out with the tank.

It doesn't look good. Trails seem trampled and the snow is melting. Maybe we should switch to bikes or just get a pizza.

Hi Amy, AMC listed a hike for the portion of trail that starts near the Simsbury Library, and it's been cleared of snow for about 3 miles.

This sounds fun but I have to work all weekend. I did go cross-country skiing in Penwood Park (across from Heublein Trail entrance/Simsbury) yesterday and it was beautiful! As good as the bike trail before the Sunday brunch, courtesy of Drew. Saw Val's comments about warming area/bathrooms : at winding trails in Farmington they actually have that stuff as well as ski rentals and they groom the trails. For those fast people (Angela?) there is a speed-skiiers' loop. I would advise go early, and check website to make sure they're open. It was about $12/day last year- much better than downhill!! O and ther's a snackbar. Have fun in the snow!!!

This sounds like fun, but I don't think I can make it this Saturday. I don't snow shoe, but would be willing to try, as long as it's "frolic" and not "expedition." I also have x-c skis, for any possible future frolics. Have fun guys.

yes, i have snow shoes and only a few poles. do you have snow pants? if you don't have boots you can just use shopping bags over your shoes. trekking poles will work although some peeps don't use them or just use a walking stick.

I'm good with snow pants and shoes. I waterproofed my Keen's.

gonna try to make it. not sure which parking lot you're talking about. If this is the southernmost one, it should be the first one you come to as you go up rt 4 from unionville. is that right, Joe? how many miles are we talking about?

Joe, nice idea. Would you want to consider going to Northwest Park in Windsor which has a warming hut and bathrooms? Also free, but has xcountry ski rentals for those who don't have them. Let's see how the snow is later in the week.
