The focus of the club is to read and discuss books. We will usually have a genre selection, sometimes have a group selection, and sometimes (rarely) have no selection. And, it's OK if you don't read the "book of the month," just come and talk about something you're currently reading or have read in the past. Our members read all genres, and some of our best discussions have been about books that have been suggested that aren't "best sellers."
We are an ongoing group that is converting to Meetup to meet and make new friends. This format has worked well for us. If you're looking for a traditional book club, where everyone is expected to read the same book, perhaps this isn't for you.
We will usually have two meetups, both on Saturday. The first is a lunch at a restaurant, and this meetup is followed by the book discussion. The book discussion is usually immediately following the lunch, but in a different place than the lunch.
Other ideas we are playing with include:
*An additional meeting, possibly for dinner and discussion.
*Single book events (make a suggestion!) where only one book will be discussed.
*In the past, weekday evening meetings have been sparsely attended, but that doesn't mean we can't have them in the future, if there is enough interest.
Most of the meetings will be in the greater San Jose area. Occasionally we might make a road trip for a special event.
IMPORTANT: Effective 1/1/16, there will be membership dues of $5 for every 6 months, collected in June and December (can be pre-paid). Please contact the organizer for details on how you can waive these fees.
