Belle Isle Marsh Reservation

this will be a tidal trip and the time is subject to tides once I nail down the tides for the area I will adjust the gather together time. 12' boats or longer with sealed bulk head's and safety gear pump paddle float whistle/horn ect. please review the location on Google earth map coordinates are N[masked] W[masked] . I would say the trip with a lunch break on the isle should last about 3.5 - 4.5 hours unless we decide to venture to deer island park I would recommend spray skirt's we will have to keep an eye on wind and surf conditions prior to trip date. as far as I know there are no rental places near bye also last time I used the public landing I was charged 5 dollars for ramp and parking use.

OK high tide is at 9:26 am and low tide is at 3:00 so be ready to be on the water around 10 am. bring plenty of water, sunscreen, snacks for when we break on the isle the total distance is around 9+ miles more if we go to Deere island.

Please keep in mind this is subject to wind and surf these. criteria below is recommended I leave up to your self to know your limits for this trip

This will be a level 2 coastal  paddle: recommended skill level
• Perform a wet exit.
• Perform an assisted deep water rescue.
• Maintain a heading for short distances without the use of a rudder.
• Turn a kayak using forward and reverse sweep strokes.
• PFD worn at all times! no exceptions.
• boats 12FT and up with fore and aft bulkheads or airbags
• Control a kayak in 15knt to 20knt winds.
• Feel comfortable in 2-3 foot waves. (most of the waves are boat generated in the harbor)

if you have any questions feel free to message me.

thank you

The Belle Isle trip was great - not an area I had ever thought of paddling, so I was so glad I went. It was really pretty, and a great group of paddlers. Very nice to meet everyone, and thanks so much to John and Heidi for organizing.

Great trip today out of Winthrop and around to Belle Isle Marsh. First time kayaking in that area - would definitely go back and explore around Deer Island. Only the possibility of thunderstorms prevented same today. A big thank you to John & Heidi for leading the group!

Back at Kendall by 3! Not bad, and weather held out, though that SW wind was pretty significant. Had a great time meeting you all and enjoying the marsh with you. Hope to see you all again soon. Cheers!

Hi John. I don't think I can do another really hot day outside. I'm sorry. I look forward to meeting others in the group soon. Have fun!

Glad I was able to make the list ... looking forward. Please note, I put my kayak in at Kendall Sq, so I'm planning on portaging across East Boston, and meeting the group at the entrance to the marsh. If I'm ahead of schedule, I'll try to head down to Winthrop, but that obviously involves alot of extra distance for me.

No worries .... I like paddling with others, but when necessary im very experienced paddling in the harbor, and navigating around the boat traffic. I'll be crossing to east boston at about 8:30 in order to meet you guys ontime, so hopefully the boat traffic will be little that early. I get get across the channel in less than 3 or 4 mins if i have to. Anyway thanks John, really looking forward to meeting you and the rest. Ill probably paddle down to deer island with you all, depending on time. And i could always lock my boat somewhere in Winthrop and take bus and subway home if I dont feel like heading all the way back. In which case, Id just go back and get it after work Monday. Ill avoid that though.

And note, im also used to paddling in current, and I'll have all necessary safety gear (air horn, pump, paddle float, spare paddle, etc). Thanks for the heads up. Ill actually have tide in my favor going up the river to East Boston, i believe, against after crossing Eastie to the beach near Belle Isle.

I could still use a ride out to Belle Island. If it is any help I can make arrangements to meet people at the Wonderland station in Revere. I have a set of foam blocks and straps for my kayak (a Wilderness Tsunami 13.5) that works on most roof tops. David 978-[masked]

I can't drive because of my epilepsy and I want to know if anyone can give me and my kayak a ride up from Salem. I would be happy to pay for the gas and I have foam blocks that fit on almost any car.
