  • New Rules for 2013!

As a way to encourage individual participation I am requiring each person who RSVP's YES for this meetup to post a song suggestion.  If you can create your own chart please do so and post it to the FILES section.  If you can't, let me know and I'll create a chart for you.

We will not use the collections that Ted posts for his meetup so it's up to YOU to decide what songs we will play.  No suggestions = no songs!

Be sure to check the  SONGS FOR 2013 MEETUPS for the latest song-sheet postings.

[masked]   We'll experiment this time.   http://www.youtube.com/user/morenciel A gracious musician has created chords, lyrics, and music online.   I'll bring a projector and speakers, so we can see if learning this way is faster.

Format, first practice Youtube with its sound on.   Then practice Youtube without its sound on, but using its chords and lyrics displayed.  Third time, turn off Youtube, and display a lyrics and chords sheet.

Bringing AV equipment is filled with potential mishaps.   Will someone also please bring an extra laptop, in case my doesn't connect for some reason.   Preferably a laptop with good audio interface.   Library has wifi.

Must regret, my hypersensitive ears (for real) is causing me to have to skip this event. So, the format will return to as normal. I'll be back in about six weeks.

I won't be able to make this one because I'll be on a flight coming back from Chicago. Have fun.

I have projector screen and wifi, so, we might want to even try a new method of learning songs, using below youtube channel. Once, with music turned on. Second time, music off. Third time, without video. Might be excellent training for us.

If you are bringing the projector and screen - you can always use it to put up a copy of the chart so everyone can see it!!

Chen, I also notice that you do vocal training. It might be a great idea for you to set a vocal training session for the group. I sure know my voice could use some training.

Chen, You're kind of new to the group, aren't you? Most of us do practice at home, and we're still going to need a printed chart to follow. Using the few hours we have at our meet-up venues to watch videos and learn new songs might not be the best use of that time. The system that we have used for many years, of members posting song charts on the website and the rest of us familiarizing ourselves with the songs at home, then coming to the sessions with a printed chart we are prepared to play, has worked very well for us. I looked at the site you posted and think it could be a good tool for home preparation. But, I still prefer a printed chart where I can see the whole song and anticipate what is coming rather than waiting for the scroll to reveal the song. Your time might be better spent in working up some charts of your favorite songs and sharing them by posting on the website. When I post a chart I provide a link to a vid or audio file, for that home-preparation that I mentioned.

I'm not really qualified to organize a guitar meetup. But, if don't have to do too much work, might be willing to help on this event. Already run too many Meetups, so lack much time.

Anyhow, I propose using the songs from here http://www.youtube.com/user/morenciel?feature=watch

Guitar chords, lyrics, instrument, and karaoke accompaniment-- all at one place. Everyone can practice before even coming. Having practiced in advance, we'll do much better at this event.

Kaminari Taiko is performing at Jones Hall as a part of Houston's Day of Music.

I have a conflict with my Taiko drumming group on this day and will not be able to host. If someone will step in I'll leave the meetup on this date. If not... I will reschedule.

This Youtuber has posted a few hundred songs with guitar cords, music accompaniment, and lyrics. Lot easier and far more fun than just using lyrics.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
