Meyerland Meet-Up

MEYERLAND MEET-UP is a plugged-in, ensemble session for advanced players of unique instruments who can improvised a solo on their instrument.

The goal is to create a musical groove (based on a popular song), then let the unique instrumentalists solo over that groove.  We will play any type of music that is "groovy."

If you sing well (it always starts with a song), play drums, keyboards, bass, horns, fiddle, harmonica, obone, etc... (any instrument really) or can solo on guitar, we would love for you to bring something new to the party.

MEYERLAND MEETUP is a refuge for the folks who do not fit in the "guitar circle" milieu.

GET YOU RHYTHM ON! is already established as the session for acoustic guitar strummers.  MEYERLAND MEETUP is not the place to hang-out and strum along.  We have nothing against rhythm guitarists, but I am a rhythm guitarist, and I'm already here.  With the limited amount of space available we don't really need more than one strummer per session.

Unfortunately the M.M. RSVP's are beginning to be dominated by acoustic guitar strummers, some of whom show up with  non-electric instruments.

The house is equipped with a P.A., microphones, drums, keyboards, guitar and bass amps, and a digital projector hanging from the ceiling to project charts on the wall.

You are encouraged to send me a PDF chart, or lead-sheet of your favorite songs.  Adobe Reader projects very sharply on the clubhouse wall.

The number of RSVP's available is limited, so please RSVP only if you will actually attend, and delete your RSVP if you decide not to attend. If it looks full, get on the waiting list and I will try to accommodate you.  However, if you RSVP and do not attend without cancelling your RSVP, you may be barred from future events.  You are cheating other members who may want to actually attend.

My email address is "[masked]" and phone # is[masked], I will send the address and directions to all R.S.V.P.'s a day or two prior to the event.

Dear Group, t'was a terrific session last night. I had an absolute blast. I want to welcome our new "utility infielder," Joey... sat in admirably on piano and organ while claiming that keyboards are not his best instrument. I can't wait to hear him on his "good" instrument.

Kim; don't want to blow smoke... but you make it worthwhile for us dudes. Ferran; fabu as always. Frederico, your fretless mellifluousness is always beautiful. Gerry; you know how much I enjoy paying with you. Ed, you show me something new and impressive every time we play together. And Don, it is always a pleasure to play with you. All of you need send in some charts or recommend some tunes for next month.

    Thanks everybody.

One more thing, if you R.S.V.P. for the session, then do not attend without cancelling your R.S.V.P. you may be barred from the next event. You are cheating someone who wanted to attend.

Dear Gang, I just up-loaded a bunch of songs for the Nov. 6th session. This should be a great session. We will be visited by the Phantom guitarist, and we may have a new trumpet player joining us. If anyone knows a guy who can actually sing please bring him along.
