Creating or playing music at its best allows one to transcend the material and connect with folks on a deeper level, but primarily it is just fun to play and share music with others.
Yes, I play both electric and acoustic guitar, but primarily acoustic. I grew up on classic rock but I also appreciate some pop, folk, and even a bit of jazz and classical, though I'm not classically trained. Primarily self taught, but I have studied with teachers here and there. I am open to learning new styles and picking up (read 'stealing') anything I can from anyone willing to share. :-) Favorites include Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor, David Wilcox, Leo Kottke, John Denver, amongst others.
I try to sing, but the vocal chords aren't what they used to be. (see above)
Getting together and jamming with folks, sharing music, and hopefully making some new friends along the way.
Started out listening and singing along to AM radio, gravitated toward FM album-oriented rock in high school, then branched out and learned to appreciate other genres. My first guitar was an old nylon string acoustic that my mom bought at a yard sale for me when I was in 8th grade. I dropped a handheld microphone inside the sound hole and played it through the 8-track player on my stereo with the volume at 11 to get distortion. Drove my grandparents crazy playing the same song (Rush's "Fly By Night") over and over and over... I have since learned a few other songs as well.
Hi all, I'm new to the area and to the region. I have moved around quite a bit and I am hoping to make some new friends with common interests, especially fellow "closet" musicians/guitar enthusiasts.
Great bunch of folks who put music first and ego last (not even in the top 10!).
