Lynches River Weekend

***If you are not camping and going to meet us for the paddle on 6/21. Meet us at 10AM at Venters Landing, 714 Kingsburg Hwy. Johnsonville,SC. Please be on time as we have many paddlers and we have a shuttle to run.***

We will again camp at River Rat's (NO RESERVATION NEEDED)as this really worked out well for us. The fee schedule will remain the same It is $5/person each night. It is also $5/person for each shuttle trip. We will be paddling on Saturday June.21st in an area near Johnsonville,SC. This is swampfox country. We will paddle from Hwy 41/51 (Venter's Landing) to Snow Lake. This part of the river is very different than the upper part that we are used to. It is a lot more winding and a lot less defined. There is much more canopy here and I did spot a gator about 1/2 mile before Snow Lake.I have contacted Terry Cook with Swamp Fox Rentals to guide us through this area. This section will be approx. 9 miles.

On Sunday if there is interest, we will do a 2nd paddle. We will set out from Indigo Landing at 9 am, and take out at Lee's Landing. This is only about a 6-7 mile paddle, but is totally different from the upper section. This should take about 4 hours to complete. I will call Barry when we are close to take out and shuttle will be there waiting. This again will be $5/person and will bring us w/boats back to Indigo Landing.

Here is a guide to the river trail map: If you would like to look at a complete trail guide to this river: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/water/envaff/river/scenic/lynchespub.html

Awesome weekend with great friends. The weather was great too other than that quick storm on Saturday night. I was able to get in an extra paddle by serving as a river guide for a church group. Did extra 5 mile paddle. I was a bit concerned about the number of people that had signed up for this, but it went off very smoothly. I am planning to do another trip with camping at RiverRat's in September. Just need to find a section to do. It may be a section of the little Pee Dee.

I have a fold up table that was left behind. Let me know if it is yours and I will put aside for you.

That table may be mine. Is the table top slats with stretch strings and legs that fold like a camp chair?

Couple of suggestions for the weekend... Get a battery operated fan for your tent. Lows over the weekend are forecast to be mid 70's. Highs will be pushing 100.
And if you have a noisy neighbor, a pair of earplugs will help tremendously.

      June 18, 2014

    • Ron S.

My sister and I are bringing 4# shrimp

      June 19, 2014

  • John B.

Lauren and Rene what time are you planning arriving Friday at Barry's ??

    June 19, 2014

  • rene

I will probably bring some appetizers to share also--cheese, crackers, fruit. I am coming mid-day Friday and planning to paddle that day if anyone is interested. I have the combo to the gate lock if anyone else is coming early, as Barry might not be there. Lastly, there are several places to hook up electrical fans by the picnic shelter, so if someone has a nice big fan or two that might be a great thing to bring--make the evening cooler and keep the bugs at bay.

    June 18, 2014

    • Harold J.

Great idea with the fan, as I was thinking to buy small battery operated fan. I'll bring a big fan. What time do you anticipate that you'll open the gate Friday?

      June 18, 2014

    • Lauren H.

Rene, I wouldn't mind a paddle on Friday afternoon.

      June 19, 2014

  • John W.

I'll be driving from Fort Mill Friday afternoon returning Sunday if anyone want to carpool.

    June 18, 2014

    • Mary K.

      sounds good. When and where?

      June 19, 2014

    • John W.

I'm in Baxter and pretty much open to leaving whenever. I can pick you up or meet. I have a pick-up with 2 racks on top, it has a back seat to put stuff in case it rains.
