Join us for an early run of the upper section of the New River from the NC16/88 bridge to the New River State Park, US-221 access. Approximate distance 15 miles, swiftly moving water, nothing over class 1, will have to portage on 'river left' at the second bridge. Last year this was our most popular paddle with 38 members attending. Meet at the park at 10:00 am, we'll set up the shuttle and drive upstream to the put-in under the bridge at the junction of NC state routes 16 and 88. This could be a 'cold weather' paddle even in late April, so pack another set of dry clothes. In the event of bad weather up there, like ice or snow, this event is subject to cancellation. Mike Janeski host.
Directions: I-77 north to exit 83 (US-21 north), follow US-21 north all the way up to Sparta (about 30 mi.). Continue through Sparta and about two miles outside of Sparta, continue straight onto US-221 South. Do Not turn right at the Citgo station (which is US-21). Continue South on US-221 for 10-12 miles, cross over the New River, continue on for another mile and turn left into New River State Park.
