July 4th Weekend Beach Party/Boating/Tubing/BBQ - Old Federal Park - Lake Lanier

POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER!!!!

July 4th Weekend Beach Party with BOATING/SWIMMING AT OLD FEDERAL PARK - LAKE LANIER - FLOWERY Branch

Let's finish the star stangled banner weekend with a beach party/boating picnic on Lake Lanier at Old Federal Park.

Old Federal Park is an easy ride from Atlanta and can be reached from 400, I-985, Peachtree Industrial or Buford Highway. We have some boats committed to the event and hope to add some.

The park has three boat docks, a beach, a volleyball court and full facilities. This is a kid friendly event. Each member can bring a food and drink item to share as we mark the end of summer with a big Celebrate Atlanta beach party on the lake. The park is dotted with shady areas and we can set up there. They have a volleyball net too. If you have a table and/or small grill and can bring it, let us know. You can park by the dock where the boats will launch. This is also the location of the beach (see picture).

Please note that carpooling is highly recommended. The parking lot closes, once filled and only allows cars in after it is filled as people leave. We are trying to work out a potential alternative parking area.

Old Federal Park is located at 6175 Jim Crow Rd, Flowery Branch, GA 30542 (this is the location of the dock and beach). Parking is $4. As I said, it is suggested that you get there early (like 10 am) as this is a popular location with very easy access. If you have a boat, bring it as they have a boat launch and dock.

Parking is limited. If you are bringing something (besides yourself), please list the items (food, tables, grills). If members will car pool, we can expand the size of the event. You can park by the Publix at exit 12 and carpool over (a few miles).

So join us for a sunny (hopefully) day at the beach for a picnic, volleyball, boating and a fun finish to a star spangled weekend with a beach party, Celebrate Atlanta style.

what does roflmbo mean? Perhaps it means wonderful time was had by all?

Let me get this straight. A member rated an event that did not occur and gave it a bad rating to boot? One would hope that if you are going to skip your dose of lithium and hallucinate about being at an event that was postponed (two e-mails alerting members and a notice on the event web page), you would at least make it a good hallucination and rate it five stars.

    Here's a vote for Sunday the 28th :)

I am looking at two issues. The 20th works best because while we have another event that day, it is not until 8 pm and I would likely skip it. On the 28th, we have a 3 course dinner at Ray's In the City at 6 pm and I would like to attend that. Much more difficult to do those two events on the same day. Thus my original thought was the 20th works better. The only benefit of the 28th over the 20th is parking might be easier.

Donna- you obviously haven't been to the lake with us before and you also don't like anyone telling you No.
Please give this event a try before you go "all negative" or simply find an all adult group you will be more happy with.
The Lake Lanier events are the best, most relaxed of the year! A free ride on the lake on a pontoon boat such as Knute's is "priceless Fun!"

My Grandson is very well behaved.......what kids have you been around to be so jaded?

      1 · July 2, 2013

This is ridiculous. Kids are welcome. end of story. What are they going to do that is so bad, mess up the sand? This is a beach party, picnic, not a living room or a library.

Hi, I live near by the park. Let me know if you would like to car pool from exit 12 Spout Springs Publix and I can transport some folks.

    1 · June 28, 2013

    • Melissa P.

Okay I checked with Red, the park person,he let me knw that there are only 60 parking spots, they fill up fast and just because you pay to get in does NOT guarantee reentry to the park. So there will be not towing of persons to and from park. Once in you have to stay put. As well note persons may walk in for 1.OO but they may turn you away as well because the park is full. Red said that is happens every year. You Best be prepaired bring everything you may need inorder to have a great time.

      June 29, 2013

    • Dave G

We have actually been able to get everyone in as long as they arrive before noon. They do not charge for walk-in's or per person in the car. You just pay $4 per car. Once the lot is full, you have to wait for a spot to open. The reason I did this on a Sunday as opposed to the 4th is because the park is not normally crowded. For Memorial Day weekend, we had no trouble getting 150 into the park. Carpooling is recommended. If you have a portable grill and can bring it, let me know. I have one gas grill.
