Woodstock Park/Free Concert, Picnic, dancing/Ed Roland & the Sweet Tea Project

Woodstock City Park - FREE CONCERT AND PICNIC  Ed Roland, lead singer for Collective Soul with his Rock Americana Band, The Sweet Tea Party- Saturday, July  13 at 6:30 PM for picnic, dancing and partying. Concert starts at 7:30 pm.

For the past two decades, Atlanta native Ed Roland has been the front man and heart of the platinum-selling rock band Collective Soul.  He has written seven #1 radio hits, and has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.  For Roland’s new project, Ed Roland and The Sweet Tea Project, he teamed up with a group of friends and musicians for a new approach to his classic hit-making style.

“The Sweet Tea Project started as a bunch of my friends coming over after gigs and listening to new songs I had written, but not with Collective Soul in mind,” said Roland.  “Everybody sat around my studio with different instruments –banjo, mandolin, steel guitar, and ukulele – and just had a lot of fun.”

Indeed, Roland suggests that the main difference between The Sweet Tea Project and Collective Soul is in the instrumentation.  “At this point in my life, the main focus will always be in writing the best songs I can write or co-write with my band mates,” he said.

After kicking off 2013 with “Rooted in Georgia” residencies in Atlanta and Athens, Ed Roland the Sweet Tea Project won ESPN’s contest to reimagine its NBA theme music, an initiative driven by fan voting.  The band was featured on the SportsNation section of ESPN.com, and their version of the song aired during ESPN’s exclusive coverage of NBA All-Star weekend.

Ed Roland and The Sweet Tea Project’s debut album, Devils ‘n Darlins, is due for release in 2013, and the band will be bringing its live show to select U.S. cities throughout the year to support the new album.  The idea is to break the band the old school way, by building its fan base close to home first, and then by kicking off what Roland suggests “will be a solid two years of touring” to support the debut.

Bring your favorite Food and Drink!

Best to get their by 6:30 pm for dining. The band starts promptly, at 7:30.

Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park after 4 p.m.
While tables are not normally allowed in the Park, Celebrate Atlanta has been given permission to set up food tables.  Please bring a main dish, side dish, dessert, beverages and picnic appropriate items to share.

So join us for a night of great tunes provided by Ed Roland & The Sweet Tea Party, group picnic  as we watch the sunset and dance under the stars in Woodstock, Celebrate Atlanta style.

Largest concert I've been to in a long time. Now I know why it's Woodstock. Never did see the group but camped by the fried candy bar vendor though never had the courage to try one. Band was not a favorite.

An e-mail went out at 1:30 pm to all attendees saying the group would be by the port-o-potties. We have been by the port-o-potties for every Woodstock concert for over a year. Thus the group DID put out the required information. Please explain the method of communicating with members that you desire since you state we should put information out? Why is it not your own fault for your choice to not read the e-mail? So what other method do you suggest? I was going to the Braves game but drove to from Johns Creek to Woodstock which added an hour and a half to my trip to the ballpark so I could set up tables and save space for members by putting blankets down. You have to do this by about 1:30 otherwise you will not get space. To those that complain about finding the group, please meet me in the afternoon to set up for the next concert. That way you can make the system you criticize better.

All Woodstock concerts series are on Saturday. I just use old write-ups and change the band so last year the concert was on the 14th and I simply forgot to change the date. That is why it showed Saturday, July 14th in the text. It has been corrected.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
