July 4 (7th) Concert & Fireworks in Chamblee/Mike Veal Band (6) Fireworks (9:15)

  • Join Celebrate Atlanta for a 4th of July free concert (changed to July 7 due to weather) featuring Mike Veal Band followed by fireworks at Keswick Park in Chamblee.  Bring a picnic basket and a chair or blanket and spend a patriotic evening with your Celebrate friends.

  • Bring a picnic basket with your favorite food, wine, cheese, etc.

If you do not want to bring a picnic basket, the following will be available for sale:

  • Mad Italian - cheese steaks
  • Chamblee Parks & Recreation - chick-fil-a sandwiches,  hot dogs, drinks, nachos, popcorn and candy
  • Chamblee Business Association - Beer Tent.
  • Frosty Caboose - ice cream

So, come on down and listen or dance to the sounds of the Mike Veal Band.  The band will be playing for 3 hours beginning at 6 pm and will put on a show befitting the 4th of July (just not on the wet 4th). Once the band finishes, the fireworks begin (about 9:15)!!!

What a great way to spend the evening, dancing and then sitting down to watch the fireworks once the band is done.

The fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:15 and are rated one of the best in Georgia. I saw then a few years ago (also with Mike Veal band) and they were spectacular.

Plenty of parking and a great field (soccer field) for a concert and fireworks.

Come to Chamblee and enjoy a free all-American picnic, concert and fireworks, dancing included at Keswick Park, featuring the Mike Veal Band followed by fireworks.

This was a great event if you weren't sacred of getting a little rain on you. I just rained very lightly for a few minutes a couple of times. Mike Veal was great! I've heard him many times and it sounded like they have learned a few new songs. Dancing was fun on a concrete area in front of the stage. The fireworks were awesome, the view from where we were sitting was perfect and the music to go along with the fireworks was a very nice touch! Per Dave's comments about "Southern Civil War Music", maybe next time instead of just playing "When Johnny Comes Marching Home", they also need to add "The Bonnie Blue Flag", "Stonewall Jackson's Way" and "Dixie"!

I contacted General Sherman's press agent and he said the General is well rested and if you Atlantan's can't accept the outcome of the war, he is perfectly willing and able to gather his soldiers and do a zombie march to the sea.

Thanks to Sandra for putting this event together. Thanks to all members that attended and did not cubby up in a hole because of the threat of rain. You were well rewarded with a fantastic night of music and more. As to the fireworks, one word sums them up. WOW. Thanks to the City of Chamblee for such a well organized and planned event and to the Chamblee police for making entry and exit so easy. Great Job, Chamblee.

I was familiar with the Mike Veal Band and enjoyed their music tonight. The fireworks were fun, especially with the recorded patriotic music being played during the shoot-em-up.

I live in Chamblee and I don't think there will be a shuttle bus from the shopping center to the park. You can park on the streets as long as you park according to the parking signs. I walked around the soccer fields this morning and it is quite soggy. I suggest you bring a chair to set on as the ground is probably not an option. There is plenty of asphalt to set up chairs on and be able to see/hear the band.

As of 10 am Chamblee is still a go with the fireworks. I will keep you all advised.

    Thanks,
    Sandra

Does anybody know if the shuttle bus will be running from Chamblee Plaza at P.I.B. and Broad? Usually it does for this
    type of event.

Hello everyone! There is a community service building in Keswick Park, I will be waiting there for everyone. Before Thursday I will buy a balloon and let you all know what it says so we can meet up. The band normally plays in the parking lot by the soccer fields, which is down the road by the community center. See you all there!

Where does the group gather for the concert/fireworks? How do you know who is with the group if you have not been to one of the MeetUps before and know people?
    Just curious. : )

Are we not suppose to have a main photo to associate or identify with each persons' comments that are here? Or if there are photos of us on our profile, but not as a main photo,is that approved by you ?

    June 10, 2013

    • Dave G

No. You are thinking of the Baby Boomer group. They screen members before they can join. Celebrate Atlanta is open to anyone and I do not require a picture. I believe you should make the choice as to whether you what you want to put on your profile and I as an organizer should not be making that choice for you.

You can't go wrong with Mike Veal. I was in Destin a few years ago, and all these young people were coming in to the parking lot with their expensive SUV's to hear Mike Veal play.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
