As to Kryptonite, it is the new hot spot in Marietta located off of I-75 and the 120 loop.  Diamond Dave opened Kryptonite as an upscale sister club to Diamond Dave's.  The club has a VIP Lounge and a great dance floor.  The music is always great at Diamond Dave's so we will simply upscale it, move it closer into town, but offer the same great music, great drink specials,  1/2 price appetizers, the free courtesy van, the free black jack and all that we get at Diamond Dave's but just move it up a few notches.

Here're a few things re smoking:
    • when you buy into the belief that smoking must be tolerated you are limiting your options to those who smoke
    • The fact that there are many regions of the country now where it is illegal to smoke in bars or restaurants is testament to the fact that people are awakening to the effects of smoking and don't want to tolerate it any longer.
    • there are many other fine options of places to go in Atlanta and all around the country other than establishments that still allow smoking.
    • I personally am new again to Atlanta after an eight-year absence or longer, yet will be looking for events that clearly state that there is no smoking allowed
    • some of you may say good riddance and some of you may agree. In any event it is that to which I must adhere because I am extremely allergic to cigarette smoke
    • and I prefer hanging with people who know the difference.

So go ahead and fight for your right to smoke if that is your joy and it certainly is an option. Heck there's no smoking at m

The rest was cut off. I appreciate those who take the care to set up events as I myself have done in other meetup cities. If you post non-smoking or smoking that will be considerate and helpful. We're all looking for social contact which was the very genesis of after 9/11.Thanks all and Happy Thanksgiving

Didn't God give us free will? That applies to smoking, drinking ( which many like to do and I hate) or anything else. So free will people, what ever floats your boat is OK with me, I'm not an anti anything person. Live and let live, there are bigger things in life to worry about. Amen!

Had a great time Dave, glad the group was doing something when I was in town visiting my parents for Thanksgiving! Attempting to get a good "airfare" for the Jingle Mingle. Miss everyone; generally speaking the new job is awesome but "professors" in general are pretty boring to hang out with ( I must be an exception to the rule...LOL) ....glad I still have friends in Georgia. Much Love always,
    Lauren .
PS.. Thank you for everything over the last 5 years...."Can it really be that long " (Before you interject on that last question counselor; I meant the time frame (Mr. Groveman) too funny

I do focus on the venues and again, if I can avoid smoking places, I do. I have had offers to move trivia and been offered nice packages for members but turned them down because the place allowed smoking. However, for dance places, I am more lenient on this issue. I do focus on cleanliness and always review the health inspection history of the venues. People focus on what they can see and smell (smoking) but put little into what they do not see (cleanliness of the kitchen). To me, this is an important issue as it says something about management. I encourage members to check out the health ratings of any venue they choose to go to. Here is a link to review any county and thus any venue in said county.
You might be really surprised to see how bad the ratings are for some venues that are used by some of the really large meetup groups and on a regular basis. Anyway, I try to look out for members in choosing venues.

Perfectly understandable ! Thanks as always for looking out for the meetup group.

Addressing the smoking issue, while I personally wish they did not have smoking at any venue, since the law allows it, that is up to the owner. In this case, Dave thinks allowing smoking is in the best interest of Kryptonite and Diamond Daves. That said, the allowance for smoking will keep certain members away. To the best of my knowledge, at this point, I believe that Diamond Daves and Kryptonite are the only venues we use regularly that allow it. I did not notice it being that bad on Wednesday and I am pretty sensitive to smoke. However, if you are allergic, then yes, these venues are two you should pass up. The group strives to use a mixture of venues to satisfy different tastes. For me, as Jim said, Brookwood Grill is a classy place where you cannot smoke and places like that are a good fit for me. However, we have over 5300 members so we do try to provide some diversity.

Is this another smoking place (as in tobacco :( )?

    November 27, 2013

    • Dave G

I dislike smoking (unless you are on fire since it is not your fault) but the smoking here seems okay. I notice it when I come in and then it kind of fades away, unless you are standing next to someone who is smoking. I would ask any smokers in the group to smoke outside.

Thanks, I had a lot of fun anyway. Hope to play with all perhaps in a nice big open field in warmer weather with a steady breeze for ventilation.

Had fun, nice folks and great band. It does get smoky for those who are sensitive to it.

Well done as usual Dave/All! These are always some of the best attended meetups, with people that actually dance (though it is debatable whether I actually dance). As for those complaining about smoking - news flash people - THIS IS A BAR/DANCE CLUB. SINCE WHEN DON'T THEY SMELL LIKE SMOKE?? It is only a recent trend that such places MIGHT not allow smoking. I don't smoke, and I hate the smell of smoke as much as any non-smoker. But complaining about smoke IN A BAR to me is like complaining about them serving alcohol.

If you are going to complain about a location for past meetup, you should suggest at least one location for a future meetup that would allegedly be better than what the organizers came up with!

Everyone can find an excuse everyday why not to do something. You can either make things happen or you can sit on your butt and watch the world pass you by.
