Come Celebrate the Chinese New Year - Year of the Horse

Join your Celebrate Atlanta friends as we Celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.  This year is the year of the Horse. The cost is $5. This is a wonderful festival and it is not to be missed.

According to the traditional Chinese zodiac, the new year will be the Year of the Horse.  The Chinese New Year celebration–referred to in Chinese as “Spring Festival”–is the most important of all Chinese holidays.

The Chinese New Year holiday begins on first day of the first month of the lunar calendar with dragon dances and firecrackers and ends 15 days later with the Lantern Festival.   Spring Festival is the time for family reunions, special meals and new clothes.  Children receive red envelopes containing money from their elders and family traditions and stories are passed down from generation to generation.

So join your Celebrate friends for this great Festival to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday, February 1 at 11:30 am.  The festival runs from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Cultural Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta (5377 New Peachtree Road, Chamblee, GA 30341, Tel. [masked]). As stated, although the festival starts at 10, the group will meet at 11:30 but get there whenever it is convenient for you.   Admission tickets are $5 per person.

The Festival will feature the traditional dragon and lion dancers, authentic Chinese food, Chinese calligraphy and other arts and crafts, as well as traditional Chinese music and dance performances.

The Festival is easily located.  It is behind the Chinatown Mall.

Event Parking -Interactive College 5303 New Peachree Road, Chamblee, GA 30341 Free Shuttle

Consider “Going Green” and taking MARTA to the event. Take the Northeast Line (Also Called the Gold Line) to the Chamblee Station. It’s just a couple blocks walk from the station to the festival site!

It was a great celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. I added some pics that include the lion dance and the dragon dance performed by students. And the food was awesome! Thanks for doing this!

Had a lot of fun. Got there a little late and didn't see anyone, missed the dragon dance, that I really wanted to see..Drank way too much tea.. Hopefully they will get a biggger venue or next year so that we can see the stage a little better.

It was a nice event. Jam packed. It is worthy of a larger space! Much larger. Worth the price of admission!

How will I know where to meet the group? Thanks.

I will set a time for members to meet at the entrance, probably about 1 pm or so as I have a volunteer event that morning. However, this event is better spent just coming, meeting up with a few members and walking around. If I can get another host to come at 11:30, you can also meet at 11:30

Is it ok to bring my 18 year old girl with me ?

    January 13, 2014

    • Dave G

certainly. In fact this is a really good event for children of any age. One of my favorite performances from last year's festival was a group of children probably middle school and younger. The dance show they did was fabulous. Lots of free candy to damage teeth is given away.
