Free Thrasher Pk Concert-The Ruperts - Free Pizza for CA Members/Picnic/Dancing

Join Celebrate Atlanta  for the first Thrasher Park Concert for 2014 featuring the Ruperts.  Free Pizza from Paizanos for Celebrate Atlanta members.  Bring an item for our picnic and/or your favorite beverage. Beer and Wine allowed in Thrasher Park.

Once again, Celebrate Atlanta has an agreement with the City of Norcross, setting aside part of the best sections of Thrasher Park specifically for Celebrate Atlanta members.   We do not have to purchase tables.  We will have four food tables and they will be covered, if necessary.  We have a great place in the park, perfect to socialize and see the band.  We will be in the area near the gazebo. Our tables will be to the left of the gazebo (facing stage) behind the sidewalk.  Our seating area is the other side of the sidewalk.

Thrasher Park has a great dance area, good parking and plenty of shaded areas on the sloping hill overlooking the stage.

Our first concert will feature the Ruperts.  What a great choice. They will have you dancing all night.

THE RUPERT'S ORCHESTRA is a twelve-piece dance band that formed in 1987 to open Rupert’s Nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia. For over eight years they played to packed houses and were voted Atlanta’s best house band every year. They have now focused their attention on the corporate and private events market.

THE RUPERT'S ORCHESTRA is comprised of some of the finest talent from around the nation. At the core of the group is a driving rhythm section accented by a fiery horn section, and an explosive Latin percussionist. Fronting the band are four of the hottest vocalists around, each with a unique sound, performing both lead and background vocals.

With an eclectic repertoire of more than 1500 songs, THE RUPERT'S ORCHESTRA performs everything from current Top 40 hits to Motown and Classic Rock to the 1940s Big Band Sound. Their show is flashy and highly interactive. Party-goers of all ages find a lot to like and get caught up in the fun.

After the Concert -COME SEE GLOW -  members are invited to continue the night of dancing and music by going over to nearby Nemoes to watch Glow.  Celebrate members with a name tag from the park will receive free admission (only after the concert ends and with a Celebrate name tag from the park or a permanent name tag).  Members will also receive 1/2 price appetizers and drink specials (again, this is for members who attend the concert and applies after 9:30 with a name tag and being on the going list to Thrasher Park). To get to Nemoes from Thrasher Park, go west on Holcombe Bridge and make a right on Peachtree Parkway. Nemoes will be on your left about a half mile up.

Why is free pizza necessary? Has anyone considered just stopping the 'free pizza' thing? Problem solved!

    May 27

    • Dave G

I do not view the free pizza as a problem, at least it has not been to date. I think it was simply being pointed out that it does not come from thin air, it is paid for, albeit at a discount and donations are appreciated to defray costs of running the group. If you want to get costs to zero, I would have to stop hosting almost all the outdoor concerts as the paper plates, etc, are costly as are name tags. I go through 9,000 name tags every 3 months. While I purchase them in bulk, I also do not purchase those really cheap name tags that come off in ten seconds. When the group was formed, it was not designed to make money. Thus we have stuck to that. That is how we do a wine tasting for $15 and other groups charge $25. We do it at cost. That said, I also did not design it to be a drain.

You are a well put together guy, Dave. You get my applause! I would be so bored if it were not for CA. Keep up the Great Work! Your Awesome! ;-)

This was a great night. I know Dave doesn't do this for recognition, but a little consideration goes a long way. I am not as active as some other members, but I always have fun. Thanks to Dave and all of the organizers for everything you do.

Kudo's to Sydney for manning the helm for the entire event. Noticed a guy taking some pizza. He had no name tag so Joe asked him if he was a member , he said yes and that his name tag fell off. Would suggest organizers that if we see something like that happening again, we ask them what is the name of our group. Where was Dave when he was needed!!!!

    May 24

    • Lisa M

Yeah bunch of people were taking pizza and flood that weren't with our group. At the end of the night when we for consolidating the city some lady came and asked if you have cookie and I said okay then she proceeded to take a bag of grapes and try to take it back to her spot lyrics I had to say something at that point . And made her bring it back

AS PER A RECENT COMMENT BY DAVE:
" We do supply paper goods but since we do so many outdoor events, it is really getting expensive. The one bad thing about this group for me is it operates at an EVER INCREASING LOSS."

As we all know - Dave spends a lot of his money on CA - Does he even come close to breaking even when he does pizza for us at the concerts plus he buys name tags / etc.

Would suggest we keep Dave around by being sure we put in a DECENT amount of money when he does pizza and now and then give him an extra $20 to $50 to cover his cost to run the group -- I for one sure appreciate not only the cost to him -- but also realize the MANY HOURS OF HIS TIME he devotes to the group.

I agree people will donate 5 bucks and then eat a whole pizza

      May 26

    • Dave G

We served 360 slices broken up into two sets of pizzas, the first at 7 pm, the second at 8 pm. To be clear, as I have heard all the rumours about this, NO I DO NOT GET A CUT from venues. Some of the loss in this group is intentional and is not expected to be recovered. As an example, at the Black Dress Party last week, we gave each guest long stem roses. On Mothers day, we gave each woman who attended the Braves game with our group, roses and chocolate covered strawberries. I do not expect to recoup the funds for things like that as it is my choice to offer the gifts for members. At the concerts where we offer the pizza, I do make a large outlay of funds (for Thrasher Park it was between $350 and $400) and for those type of events we do put out a voluntary donation jar. However, by choice, I forbid organizers from walking around and shoving the donation jar in members face. The donations are voluntary to help defray costs.

June 6 with Yacht Rock Schooner with same setup, free pizza, picnic, dancing, etc. Of course, you can see Yacht Rock Schooner for $12 at the Strand Theater next weekend and sit in a seat and prove your brain cells are elapsing (since you can simply wait a week and see them for free and have room to dance and enjoy free pizza and a picnic). We also have Yacht Rock Review at Heritage Park on June 8 for a FREE Yacht Rock weekend.

Thanks to everyone who came out and brought food and drink to share and for your pizza contributions. We served 360 slices. Contrary to a comment made by a member, I do not get a cut from venues. Thanks to Sydney, Gary and Robyn for hosting last night. Thanks to Joe Moss, Gary and Todd for helping hall all those very hot pizzas over from Paizanos. Thanks to Paul, Gary and Sydney for cleaning up. I do hope you enjoyed the concert and don't forget, we have Yacht Rock Schooner at Thrasher Park on June 6 followed by Yacht Rock Review on June 8 at Heritage Park at Sandy Springs for a Yacht Rock weekend. I accidentally left off an important fact in my e-mail today. After the concert, members (with name tag from tonight) can go to Nemoes and enjoy Glow for 1/2 price (9:30 and after), 1/2 price appetizers and drink specials. Nemoes is very close to Thrasher Park and a great way to continue dancing and what better way than to the tunes of Glow. Incidentally, I saw Glow last week and they have added quite a few new songs so join us after the concert and let's continue to socialize, dance and have a great start to the holiday weekend. Remember if you see a member you do not know, say hello. How hard is it, especially when they have a name tag on?

    1 · May 23, 2014

  • Dawn

Hey there...new to the group. Can I bring a friend ?

    May 23, 2014

    • Dave G

You can bring friends, enemies, whomever but please make sure they are listed as guest. I do not cap this type of events as it is ridiculous to cap outside concerts as if you have some say in who can attend. However, the count is important for the purchase of the pizza. We do have say as to who can have pizza and eat at the food tables so while I never limit this type of event, knowing who is signed up is important for said purpose.
