Children's Restoration Thanksgiving Dinner Food Drive for Homeless Children

  • Come join Celebrate Atlanta as we once again take time to help the homeless children and families of Atlanta by volunteering with Children's Restoration Network to pack Thanksgiving Dinners for various homeless shelters and group homes in and around the Atlanta area.

Many of the shelters and group homes have very limited budgets and do not have the funds needed to provide a bountiful meal on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to the Thanksgiving meal, we also want to stock their food pantries with the basics, but also with the foods children love to eat for the Holidays.

CRN will be collecting 200+ turkeys with all the trimmings for children living in shelters and group homes and fill their pantries for the Holidays!  The items will be delivered to the address below and we the members of Celebrate Atlanta and other volunteers will sort the items and get them ready to go to each shelter or group home.

We will be doing the sorting and distributing of the food at an old Bally’s Fitness location behind the Town Center Prado Shopping Center. The Address is 2600 Prado Lane, Marietta, GA 30066. The location is a separate  building behind the shopping Center, just past the Steinmart

This is a great opportunity for you to really share in the true meaning of Thanksgiving.  Our group will be assigned various shelters and home and we will then receive a list of items that said shelter or home will need to provide a full and bountiful Thanksgiving dinner for the 2,400 homeless children of Atlanta and their families.

Our members will take the list of items needed and gather them in one spot designated for our assigned shelters.  The items will then be packed and eventually the turkeys will be added to the packets and then sent to the Shelters so they can get cooking for the big Thanksgiving dinner.

You can be a part of helping to feed the homeless children of Atlanta on Thanksgiving by coming out on Friday the 16, Saturday the 17th or Sunday the 18th. Come out one of the days or all three.  Your assistance will be appreciated whether it is one hour, one day or three days.

This is a kid friendly event and would be a great experience for your children.

Are we still meeting tomorrow to help with the Food Drive? I have read that you already have finished on Friday. Do you need any more help?

What a blast this was. A bunch of kids showed up & we knocked it out in about an hour. Nice meeting Cathy and Judy and some of the regular Celebrate members.

For those of you who were going to volunteer tomorrow, they could certianly use MORE food donations. That would be just as good as volunteering.

Nice meeting you too Dave, and those kids were awesome, we would have been there alot longer if it wasn't for them.

We got all the boxes of donated food sorted and moved into another room and placed in their sections and we still had time to sort the food into smaller sub-catgories. They could probably still use some help tomorrow but I don't think they will have that much to do.

Actually they were expecting another truck load of food, they just didn't want 100 people showing up from a meet up group, that was a bit overwhelming to them. So I am sure they will still need some people on Saturday.

Incidentally, while it is too late to improve the situation as to Thanksgiving, they also do a toy event for homeless children that I will be posting for December. They are short toys. If they do not need volunteers, please come to Wild Wings and bring a toy and I will get them to CRN. As always, I really appreciate all of you who are willing to give up your valuable time to help Atlanta's homeless children and their families.
