Hello Fellow Celiacs!

I want to invest in a bread-making machine. Can anyone give me some advice?

What is the best machine, and why? And what are the best bread mixes...?

ALL comments, thoughts appreciated!!

Thank you

Andrew

Be careful when you buy mixes that they make the same size bread as your machine makes. I like the Whole Foods Sandwich bread mix which is good for my 2 pound bread machine.

I don't have a bread machine yet (not sure I want to sacrifice the space) but have read elsewhere that it is very handy to get a machine, such as the cuisenart, that has a gluten-free cycle. Since GF breads don't rise as much, this is helpful. If you are in NYC, check the price at Zabars.

Pamela's has the best Bread Mix
The runners up are 3 from Bob's Red Mill

Since GF bread doesn't need to be kneaded.....sometimes it pours, you can mix it with a hand mixer, put it in a loaf pan, let it rise for an hour and bake. It is super easy, no need to buy an expensive machine or try to find a place to store it.

If you are ok with Dairy..... add some shredded cheese to Pamela's mix

YUM!

PS for some reason add a little Apple Cider Vinegar it helps...... If anyone knows why PLEASE let me know

PS My favorite frozen bread is Food for Life - MILLET
even King Kullen has it
just put a slice in the toaster or microwave much easier than baking

Elise,
Thank you for such great ideas - I was also looking into purchasing a bread machine but now will give baking a try. Any good recipes for bread?

i just got a basic breadman machine and works pretty well. my first loaf was a bob's red mill and it came out well and was tasty. the second was a namaste foods bread mix and it didn't get cooked all the way through. i had to throw it out. i just got a pamela's favorite sandwich bread mix and will try it in the machine tonight. For recipes, I love the book "gluten free girl" and her blog. she has great bread recipes but they are made for "by hand," not machine.
