Hike to Indian Pools

Information taken from Every Trails....Indian Pools is a very nice easy/medium hike that follows along Big Creek. It has lots of nice views and in the right time of year, usually spring, you'll come across many calm pools by the river that you can jump in.

Getting there: take highway 168 up from Fresno/Clovis East. Past Shaver Lake, you'll come to a ski resort called China Peak (used to be called Sierra Summit). Go into China Peak, and drive till the end of the parking, till you run out of road. You'll see a sign for "Indian Pools Trail".

The trail stats off easy, gets a little tricky at some spots where you have to climb a few rocks, but never gets difficult. At some spots the trail is not well marked, and sometimes wanders away from the creek, but keep going up and you'll find yourself by the creek again and by another pool. If the temperature is right, pack swim trunks so you can jump into the pools along the creek. The water will be cold but it is calm in the pools and no current to pull you.

Meetup was awesome! Rob and I blazed our own trail through the fresh powder. And there were celebratory beer and tacos afterwards.

Well with only one person chiming in and wanting to meet up there instead, it looks like I'm going to cancel. Going to go next door and board with my husband.

Wouldn't have signed up if I didn't want to go. I'll be at Starbucks at 7:00 tomorrow morning regardless.

I'm still planning on attending and bringing my new snowshoes. Just got them at an REI 25% off sale. I'll meet the group at the trail head at about 8:15 - 8:30 (gray Dodge Ram) since I'm starting from a different direction.

Oh boy....ok with this crazy weather I guess this is turning back into a snow shoe adventure. We will stick with the Indian Pools trail since this is a good trail for snowshoeing.

CAN I PLEASE GET A COUNT OF WHO IS REALLY COMING? With all the weather and event changes Im not sure how many people are actually coming.

Here is some additional info: China Peak rents snowshoes. Since I live up by Academy, I would prefer not to drive 1 hour out of the way. So can we meet at 168 and Temperance at 7am?

Oh and a couple of people who are still riding up with us want to snowboard/ski China Peak instead. So if you want to do that instead, chime in as well.

Just doing a heads up on who is still coming to the hike tomorrow. I might not be able to make it. Has anyone done this hike before, just in case I don't make it? Might need someone to lead it. And if you need to rent snow shoes I believe China Peak rents them. I would give them a call to make sure.

Looks like we'll need to bring snow shoes! Is this a good hike for snow shoes?

China Peak reports 17-19 inches of snow in the last 7 days, which is pretty much the last 2 days. :-)

Hello everybody. Im not the most experienced hiker, but I did hike up to Alta Peak in one day. Total distance was 14 miles, so I think I should be able to hang.

      January 21, 2014

Hello Sophia, Im not sure if it can be done right now. It is over 11,000 feet. Maybe when the weather gets a little warmer. Or if it can be done, then Im game too lol.

It's been a weird year. No fog in the valley, no snow on the moutains. I hope things change soon.

If there is no snow by this time, we will still plan a hike for the day. Any suggestions...hike you have always wanted to try?

** I had to change the date because of the lack of snow and moving the China Peak event. Im sorry if this is an inconvenience.
