September Android Developer Group Meetup

Hello upcoming attendees and group members! The September meetup is this Wednesday the 24th and we're looking forward to seeing everyone! We're now hosting the meetups at Canvs which is on the 1st floor of the same building we've been in for some time. Address below.

We have 2 great presentations lined up and those details are below. We should have time for demos if anyone wants to showcase something they're working on. Please take a minute to update your RSVP so that we have an accurate count for food/drinks at

If you have any questions please email me at [masked]

Speaker 1: Ian Thomas
Ian Thomas is a full time Android developer for a digital forensics company. Ian focuses his efforts on front end design and application architecture and strives to help others excel at both.

Topic 1: Orlando Open Data Project and App Demo
Orlando open data will demo their first sample application as a utility to help bikers find city provided bike paths and bike parking. See the app, ask questions, get involved!

Speaker 2: Matt Dupree:
Wannabe philosophy professor turned wannabe tech entrepreneur. I work at Echo as an Android Developer. I also do some iOS development.

Topic 2: "Why you should probably be using Android Studio"
At the last couple meetups, there's been some informal discussion about the merits and faults of Android Studio. This presentation is a continuation of that discussion. I'll be showing off some of the cool features of Android Studio and I'll try to show how Android Studio relieves us of certain pain points that come along with Android Development. I'll also address some hurdles that might arise when trying to move your projects over to Android Studio.

Matt... any chance that you could create a list of those shortcuts that you showed us in Android Studio? I'm trying to remember the one that automatically rewrites your catch statements correctly... :)

Arrgh!... for some reason some of my keyboard shortcuts are not working! alt+enter doesn't do anything. Any idea? I haven't changed any settings since installing so it's a basic setup.
