My system is set up in my garage.
I've set up a tiered system using five five foot sections of four inch PVC pipe, a 55 gallon tank and two two-hundred watt cf lights. Although at a foot long each, the lights aren't very "compact". I just finished setting the system up last Friday (September 28) and testing it for leaks. Amazingly there were none. I've ordered a pump online which should be here in the next day or two. I'm going to to plant seeds in soil tonight to get them started. (I started some a few weeks ago just to make sure I could.) I'll be using small bluegill from a friends private lake as my first fish. Figuring I'll wipe out a few fish and plants as I learn my way around I don't want to buy talipia just to kill them. I originally built my system with a 300 gal tank, but it took up half of the garage and they didn't work well. So I took it apart before putting plants and fish in.
I'm Byron and I'm new to aquaponics. In fact, I just put together a system from scratch in my garage (I'm going for year round growth) and will be planting some veggies tonight to get started. I'm going to start with some small bluegill I'll catch.
