Craig and Sam have arranged an exciting weekend for the SLACKERS. We have taken most of the work out of the trip down the Suwanee. Just jump in your Kayak and float down the river on a multi day camping and kayaking adventure on the on the Suwanee. This trip will cost $85.00 per person. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS. All payments need to be made by March 15th 2013. Please RSVP only if you plan on attending. This trip will include the cost of Camping Friday night, the outfitter to cart our Kayaks and gear to the starting point at Dowling Park, and all equipment to each of the River Camps, provide us ice each day, tip for the outfitter, breakfast and dinner each day. Lunch snacks and drinks are on your own to bring.

There are two surprises that we believe will have everyone excited about this trip.

First, this trip will include an A and B trip option.

A TRIP: If you can paddle on Friday May 24, lets meet up thursday night in Branford. We can camp or stay in a Motel, to be determined later. We will meet the outfitter Friday morning at the Branford Boat Ramp who will take us up to the Suwanee River State Park where we will paddle down to Dowling Park. We will eat dinner and Camp at Dowling. Saturday morning, we will meet the group on the B trip at Dowling.

B TRIP: Meet Sam Friday night at River Run Camp grounds where camping reservations have already been made for you. Go to a local Buffet or cook at the camp grounds. Saturday morning, meet the outfitter at the Branford boat ramp and leave Cars there. Load kayaks and gear into the outfitters trailer and he will take you up to Dowling to meet the group on the A trip at approximately 9:00 am. Meet the outfitter at Branford boat ramp about 7:30 am.

THE COST FOR THE A AND B TRIP IS THE SAME

TRIP Details:

Friday: Suwanee River park to Dowling: 14 miles
Saturday: Dowling to Peacock Slough River camp: 18 miles
Sunday: Peacock Slough to Adams Tract: 10 miles
Monday: Adams Tract to Branford 7 or 8 miles

Surprise two: The Dinner Menu
We will be catering in Dinner.

Saturday Dinner:

Pulled Barbeque Pork and pulled Barbeque Chicken
Buns
Coleslaw
Potato Salad

Dinner Sunday Night

Smoked Brisket
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Seasoned carrots
Green Beans

Breakfast sunday and Monday morning will include Eggs, bacon, Pancakes. (subject to change or additions)

Sounds mouth watering after a long days paddle, doesn't it.

The Springs:

This section of the river has the greatest number of Springs I've ever seen. Think of Weekie Wachie, Juniper springs, silver River times twenty. Each day, we will visit so many springs you will lose count. Some are actual parks, others are hidden, only accessible from the river. Maybe we'll be the first to find a new spring no one knows about yet!

TRIP A

Friday night will be at River Run Campground.http://www.riverruncampground.net/index.html Located at 2739 Us HWY 27 Branford, FL 32008. No need to make your own reservations. Reservations have already been made and included in the price per person. The remainder of the time, we will be staying at the Suwannee River River Camps Peacock Slough and Adams Tract. http://www.floridastateparks.org/wilderness/rivercamps.cfm These facilities have bathrooms with hot water showers, fire pits, picnic tables, and grills. Very nice facilities!

The first day of the paddle (SAT) will be approximately 18 miles with several stops along the way for playing in the beautiful springs. Day 2 (SUN) will be approximately 10 miles also with several stops for spring playing. Day 3 will be approximately 7-8 miles to finish up the trip. This is a a fairly leisure version of the trip since we have plenty of opportunity to play in the water at some of the most beautiful springs in Florida.

The not so fine print....please be responsible for yourself. Bring all of your own safety gear and normal kayaking equipment. Breakfast and dinner will be provided for you; however, dinner on Friday night, lunch, snacks and drinks will be up to you. Please bring plenty of water to hydrate. Alcohol is acceptable in the River Camps! With that said...as a courtesy to others, please drink responsibly. If ANYONE gets out of hand, they will be calling the outfitter to come pick them up at their own expense. Please don't be the one to test this safety rule.

Don't forget folks....... RSVP's are to be paid for using the PayPal button. Please pay when RSVPing, or send me an email letting me know when you'll be paying. Craig -[masked] [masked] Please no pets.

As with all of our paddles, we are not professional guides nor instructors. We are a group of kayaking enthusiasts out for an enjoyable time. We help each other, learn from each and enjoy the privilege of being out on the water. By participating in any of our paddles, you assume all risks and responsibilities for your personal health and safety and for your equipment. You also agree to the terms of the Waiver of Liability (see "Files" for the Word document) that applies to all SLACKER adventures. It is important for everyone that each participant be prepared for the trip. Please use your discretion and best judgment when joining a trip. Check the weather reports and tide charts and make your own informed decision about the trip.Be sure you are up to the paddle -- physically, mentally and that your equipment is appropriate for the intended trip. Know and respect your limits. Be safe, act responsibly and you will certainly enjoy another fantastic trip.

Fantastic-best memorial weekend in recent memory. Lost and found...
I have a green-grey-pink or similar colored collapsable canvas cooler and three cooking utensils I inadvertently brought home.
PS...did anyone find an expensive pair of sunglasses at the bottom of one of the springs?

I want to thank everyone who joined me on this Epic Adventure and made my birthday one that I will always remember. We had so much fun, from visiting the many Springs, the incredible rope swings, the amazing food brought to us by Cleo and her family, and the tremendous Van and trailer support from Eugene. These trips are always easier to put together when everyone comes together as a family, and we certainly did. Special thanks to Matt and Jim, who helped pull off some of the biggest breakfasts a Slacker ever cooked, and Millie who beat up over 150 eggs and all of those who helped clean up after we cooked. Of Course, huge thanks to Sam, whose calm and Steady leadership, as always, kept me on the straight and narrow path. I'm looking forward to next year, and Craig and Sams Suwanee Spectacular 2.

So far, I have three double burner propane stoves. That should be all we need. Stove provided by Craig, Sam and Lynn.

Coolers: Sam, Craig and Julie Noonan have 6 coolers. We may need 2 or 3 more large ones. Any more volunteers on the coolers.

Pans: Victoria has a nice skillet. We need a few more 12 in non stick skillets. Does any one have an electric skillet to cook up pancakes?

Folding Tables: Victoria has a nice foldable table. WE need two more?

Craig, what time should me meet on Thursday? Dinner in town sounds good after setting up camp. Do you have a street address so I can find it on the GPS? Thanks. Looking forward to this trip!

    May 10, 2013

    • Craig G.

I'll whip us up a quick breakfast Friday morning, or we could do something simple like bagels before we meet the out fitter. Sat morning, we won't have access to our coolers at Dowling River camp, so we need to keep it simple, like oatmeal.

Sharon, you certainly can bring your cooler. If we have too many, or run out of room in the trailer, we can leave extra coolersi n our cars at the Branford boat ramp.
