Camino de Santiago de Compostela (Northern Spain)

  • Needs a location

  • I'm posting these hikes to see if anyone is interested in joining me (they're all on my Bucket List and I'm not getting any younger).

Camino de Santiago de Compostela - The "Way of St. James"

The Camino de Santiago is for everyone, young, old, fit, unfit, religious or otherwise.

I hope to hike just a portion of El Camino de Santiago, ending in Santiago de Compostela.

    Here are some options:

    * Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela: about 28 days
    * Logroño to Santiago de Compostela: about 25 days
    * Burgos to Santiago de Compostela: about 20 days
    * Leon to Santiago de Compostela: 12-14 days
    * Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela: 8-9 days
    * Sarria to Santiago de Compostela: 4-5 days

Checked out the photos the other day. Looked like a wonderful trip, aside from the bunkbeds. The countryside and little towns are perfect.

Well it's been crazy but I am just 3 days away from Santiago now. Still closing in at about 30 KMs a day. Tomorrow it is to rain and it may slow me down. Still only had three blusters I picked up shortly after crossing the border from France on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees. They have not been an issue for me thankfully. Plan to arrive into Santiago this Sunday morning in time for Mass at the Catadral for Pentecost Sunday. It's a big holy holiday in Spain and will be very exciting. After Santiago a few m ore days hiking to Finisterra. Ed

Hiked by the Cruz de Ferro today and placed three stones at the bottom of the cross. Rapidly moving west and expect to be in Santiago by mid June at the latest. Doing 25 to 30 KMs a day in the Camino.

Sorry about not updating. I'm at about mile 120 now headed for Burgos. The Camino is awesome but no cakewalk. Crossing Pyrenees had snow lightning freezing rain. Incredible. Hiking in family of Ireland and New Zealand.

I have decided to begin my 2014 Camino in September and take some different routes (Cami San Jaume and Catalan). There are too many people walking the Camino Frances in summertime and I know it would make me crazy since I'm used to wilderness hiking.. KC, I just did hut to hut tramping in Milford Sound and lots of day hikes. Ahhh…I'll just email you instead of extending this Comment section, lol. Enjoy your travels!

I'm hoping to get a few friends who are interested in renting a car and driving / campin in Australia. The problem traveling poses is I meet so many people who talk about the most fascinating destinations!

I will be doing pilgrimages twice, once in 2014 and again in 2015. I will be taking two different routes and trip lengths. A family member will be living in Spain for a couple of years. Email me if interested in details. I don't want to clutter this event.

Cheryl Strayed has another hiking book or did you mean "Wild: Lost to Found on the PCT"? Excellent book! I'm reading it on my Kindle now. I never EVER wanted to so the PCT until I read Wild :)

It'll be interesting to see how many of us actually make it 3 years from now. I know a couple who go there annually and they are in their 70's for sure. We can do it!

I've lived in Spain and most recently visited this past March and IT WAS FREEZING so anything during the winter months is out of the question. Depending on everyone's availability, perhaps we can think about Summer 2014? I'm planning the West Highland Way (Scotland) hike for April/May 2014 so I think Spring is out for me ... unless (moment of brilliance) I combine the two :)

You know I'm interested in this one. My sis will be here in July and we will talk about it more. We were looking at 2014.

Quite possibly! Only available during December-January and June-August. Also the time when airfare is priciest. :-(
