Silver River Nature Park Kayaking from Head Spring

Let's try a short launch from the head spring.  Trial Run!.

I've never been at the new launch, so be flexible.  The Ranger said to enter the park at the normal US 40 (aka Silver Springs Boulevard) entrance.   The fees are $5 single occupant or $8 carload to enter park.   There is an additional $4 per kayak launch fee.  Supposedly it is a short distance to launch.

Tell them at the gate you plan to launch.

The park CLOSES at Dusk.

Which is 6 p.m. at this time.

So I think an out and back run is best.

We made it shorter so you can go set up camp  at Gores Landing (if that is your plan).

Did this trip in the middle of November. Be sure to explore all the newly opened pathways near the put-in. Everyone else in our group headed straight for the head-springs and then down stream toward Rays. I opted to explore at the start and headed to the right. Lots of streams are now available that had been restricted as part of the old park's water rides or park infrastructure. Keep right at the put-in and you will be happy. After exploring those areas you can always go to the head-springs and more commonly traveled parts of the river.

Also upon entering we made it clear that we were only paddling and not using the rest of the park and we were only charged the launch fee. We had camped in the park and maybe that made a difference. Anyway, I'd tell them only launching and you might save some money.

We'll miss this trip, so have a bunch of fun without us.

The launch was easy. Nice carpeted launch. Place to drop off kayaks. Depending on events, parking may be close by. The new Fort King Waterway was awesome. Very easy paddling. Lots of wildlife.

In one of the old Tarzan movies with Johnny Weismueller, Tarzan ran into a cave in Belleview on HWY 441 and swam underwater until he surfaced in Silver River. Great feat !!!

Yes you can. Remember the Park closes at dusk, it gets dark 6 pm these days (early January).
