Lets Day Pack to Hidden Pond in the Juniper Prairie Wilderness

We have a large group camping at Alexander this weekend, so I thought it would be good idea to do a day Hike to Hidden Pond in the Juniper Prarie wilderness. We will start at Juniper Springs, Hike the 5 miles or so to Hidden Pond, Have Lunch and enjoy the amazing scenery in this magical place, then hike back to rejoin the group at Alexander Springs.

This Hike will be the first in our Appalachian trail Tune up Hikes. Today, we will simply day pack into Hidden Pond, so all you will need is your day pack, a couple of liters of water, Lunch, maybe your filter if you want to bring some of the great spring water home from the Pond. I'll want to carry at least 15 pounds with me in the Day pack.

Sunday, for those that joined us for the Hike on Saturday, we can Kayak the Juniper run.

Hidden Pond is an amazing place to camp.  Were going to set up another backpacking trip to camp here in the next month or so.

I forgot to start tracking at the parking lot, but I got the hike when we headed back from Hidden Pond to the parking lot. Just multiply everything by two. :) Ex. 5.7x2=11.4 total miles

I think you all should strike up the camp stoves and demonstrate your ability to cook a meal for your lunch break. Practice. Practice.

There is a basic list of items everyone should bring besides water and lunch. Items such as a rain poncho, proper footwear and clothing is essential.

  • Charlie H.

    Craig,

I will be happy to assist your training by letting you carry all my stuff for this hike. I might be bringing a gallon of water and two folding chairs.

Wow, this looks like more members want to go hiking instead of Kayaking.
