Seaplane Base launch 150. W. Ruby Tavares

"Dean & Tyra are planning on a Sunset/Moonrise paddle from Al's Landing at the Tavares City Docks to Dora canal and back on June 13th...this is one of 2 dates this year when the sunset and moonrise are within a period you can enjoy both within a short period of time from each other. We are doing an out and back paddle, putting in and taking out at the dock of "Seaplane City" in Tavares. I see your doing a long stay at Wekiva SP that week and figured to sent you and all your meetup folks an invitation to join us for something different on that ominous of dates of June FRIDAY the 13th evening. Its about a 35 minute drive up 441 to Tavares from Wekiva SP. The canal is about 1 and 1/2 miles from the dock; the canal is little over a mile in length; so it'll be maybe 6 miles total paddle. We'll launch around 7:15p.m. (sunset is 8:21; moonrise is 9:05 on the 13th ). Al's landing is a great venue to have dinner before our launch, or after the paddle for a little libation and live music. We hope to see you soon. D&T "

Will anyone be kayaking, hiking, etc. Friday or Saturday? I had planned to arrive Thursday afternoon unless I can get away sooner. I reserved a campsite for Thurs, Friday and Saturday but I might try to come Wednesday but don't know yet if I can.

There are fifteen hikers at this time for the Saturday morning hike. The meet time is 8 am, will hit the trail at 8:15 a.m.

I am not sure if there is a planned group kayak, but I would love to kayak. I live locally and will not camp.

    1 · May 27

    • Alastair B.

      Thanks for letting me know.

      June 9

    • Linda S

For kayaking, hopefully Alastair or another local can make it. Tina is working. If not, I'll let the participants know of any and all possible launches I am aware of and we will play it by ear. Weather-wise, right now, early morning Kayaking / Hiking and evening paddles look best. Some scattered storms may build about noon. Highs look to be close to 90 and lows near 70/72.

      June 9

  • Linda W.

I would be interested in a moonlight paddle if it isn't too far from where we're staying.

    June 6

    • Linda W.

Is it a creek or river?

      June 6

    • Linda S

      111. and 150 W Ruby is 22.3 mile from Wekiwa and 33 minutes according to my GPS. 111 is the address of Al's Landing the dinner place. Launch is from Seaplane Base at 150 W. Ruby. Participation is optional. I would NOT miss a paddle with Dean and Tyra for all the all the tea in China.

      June 7

  • Linda S

New Paddle Option: Dora Canal moonlight paddle Friday evening with Dean & Tyra. Possible dinner. Please respond to this post by June 9th if interested. Dinner & Paddle or paddle only.

Would love to camp with you all, but I just can't get a site... Almost got site 14, but it's to small, max allowed is 20ft and mine is 23 ft

    1 · May 29

    • Linda S

Hi Evie, FYI- You can call them the day of and see if a site is open. You can also ask about sites and sizes .Site is gone now, but Max Vehicle Length: 20 Site Length: 46 Site Width: 15 I think you would have fit fine. I would have looked at the lot size.

      1 · May 30

  • Linda W.

    I have a kayak.

    May 28

  • Alastair B.

There are three places to kayak from there. One is at the springs, you can rent kayaks, and the other is about 15 minutes away. The third is expensive to rent but is about 5-10 minutes drive.

    2 · May 27

  • Linda W.

Is there a contact number and person I can get if needed after arriving? Also, is anyone planning to kayak?

    May 27

  • Linda W.

My camp site is #59. I will arrive Thursday afternoon and will be interested in hiking and kayaking Friday and Saturday. Since I have not visited the area before, I am not qualified to assist. It would be appreciated if I could get a contact number for when I arrive since I will not have internet access while there.

Please post your campsite if you are camping, so you can find the other participants and plan the days activities. (Reply to this post). Maybe someone will volunteer to be a co-host for the event..since I am NOT going to be around. If you are hiking Saturday with the group, please reply to this post.

    April 16, 2014

  • Alastair B.

I won't be camping at Wekiwa Springs. But I will be a day tripper since I only live 20 minutes away. Plenty of hiking, off road biking, canoeing/kayaking. You can set up to kayak most of the day and set cars up to ferry back and forth to exit point.
