Caladesi Island Kayak and Beach Day

We will meet on the beach just west of the kayak rental location.

I will be returning from playing up in the mountains and ready to kayak and Relax on the beaches of Caledesi island.

We will launch as a group from the beach on the Dunedin Causeway.  You will find us just west of the Sail Honeymoon Kayak Rental location.  After we launch, we will paddle to the first set of mangrove tunnels that begin at the Caledesi marina.  We may also paddle the long Mangrove tunnels that begin just south of the exit of the short tunnels.

After the tunnels, lets paddle to the sand bar that sits between Caledesi and Honeymoon Islands.  Sea Kayakers may want to play in the surf, while others may want to simply relax and hang out on the Sand bar.

Bring your paddle, Kayak, PFD, water shoes, Bug Gunk, WATER CANNON, lots of water and snacks/lunch and sunscreen. It is your responsibility to Hydrate before hitting the water.  Bring any other safety gear you are comfortable with for a day on the water.  Caledesi has been known for its awesome water cannon battles.

Check out http://www.floridapaddlingtrails.com/tripreport.asp?map=783 for information about the island.

Fantastic, love Caledesi, being with great people, enjoying the water, and sitting under Tracy's umbrella with a gentle breeze. Oh and the jello shots were awesome too! This is how we should spend the rest of the summer. Had a great day, thx.

Sorry, we aren't going to be able to go tomorrow. We bought a new home (on a canal leading to Lake Pierce!), but it is simply taking far longer to get settled than we thought it would. Looking forward to trips with all of you in this fall, though!

Is this paddle easy enough for sup? Are we expecting much chop or wind? This is my first time here.. i would be completely confident in my kayak, but I would rather take the paddleboard if I can...

    June 18, 2014

    • Craig G.

This area is a playground for all sorts of paddle sports. I've seen small sailboats, sups, kayaks etc. If you want to bring your sup, please do so. Maybe we can check your sup out and you can try different kayaks while were on the beach!

After our paddle and playing on the Sand bar, we can go for drinks and food at Ozona Blue. This place has great food, a super out door Tiki area, and a pool for swimming, with your drinks, but don't spill, that would be alcohol abuse. We have some members from out of town who would love this place.

Perhaps check the tides -- was her last saturday and that can be important

    May 20, 2014

    • Mike R

As Craig mentioned, even during low tide it's not an issue but for anyone wondering....High Tide is at 7:26 AM and Low Tide isn't until 2:47 PM so it will be perfect timing for our paddle.

      2 · May 22, 2014

    • Victoria P

The only hazards here are high wind/chop, extremely heavy boat traffic and inexperienced paddlers who neglect to wear their PFD's. during low tide you may not be able to paddle the mangroves. With gulf chop more than 2 ft, only experienced paddlers with spray skirts will want to paddle outside the intercoastal in the gulf. Tides can be strong coming around the points of the pass. Most of the time...this is a wonderful, easy paddle! One of my favorite.

Hi everyone. This sounds like a fun, relaxed paddle.. Is it suitable for a beginner like myself? Does anyone have any experience renting a kayak/gear here?

    May 20, 2014

    • Craig G.

Rob, we take care of our own with Kayaks. that way, you won't have to deal with a return by a certain time and have to Rush back. This certainly is a good, relaxed paddle for beginners.
