Little Manatee River upper section (For the People who missed the last time) II

The Little Manatee River is a classic tannin-stained Central Florida river. It is a Florida Designated Outstanding Waterway. In a day's paddle, it transitions from a 10-20 foot wide creek meandering through ash and oak dominated floodplain to a 300-foot wide tide influenced river fanning through tidal marsh that empties into Cockroach Bay/ Tampa Bay. The sandy bottom and gently sloping banks create a number of spots to stop and stretch or eat.

The section of the river we will paddle is the upper part. This section of the river is narrow and wild, with tight turns and faster waterflow with a extensive tree canopy to keep us shaded and cool. It offers several hours of enjoyable wilderness paddling, but it's considered a challenging run with the twists and turns and good current. An old railroad bridge in this upper section marks the spot where the famous "Orange Blossom Special" once crossed the river.

This a very pretty +/- 8 mile downstream fun filled paddle with tree canopy and many twists and turns.

There will be a $10.00 fee to the outfitter to take us to the put-in.

Not a novice paddle.

Please bring a PDF, whistle, water and lunch/snack.
