Our friends at LAAG are celebrating their first Birthday and have invited us to their party. CLHG wish them many happy returns and a long life full of wonder, fun and reason.
Below is what they tell us they have planned for everyone. It sounds great.
N.B.Ginny has asked that if you are a member of both CLHG and LAAG please only register on one Meetup site to avoid confusion re numbers, thanks.
A JAM-PACKED show, literally rocking with entertainment and since you're "(probably!) the best LAAGers in the world", we've thought it appropriate to secure you a special Carlsberg treat ...!
A private boat hire on the Thames (... well actually it's still and stable due to a permanent mooring on the Embankment), reserved exclusively from 3pm till 7pm. i.e. IT WILL STAY MOORED, not actually going up the river.
And if the weather's kind, a fantastic open deck as well, with stunning views of London eye and other landmarks....!
Here's what's happening...
From 3pm til 7pm :
PROFESSIONAL COMICS: Ginny and Adrian used to run comedy events so we've seen a lot of comics and aren't easily impressed! - these are some of our favourites and we're hopeful (and quietly confident!) you'll love them as much as we do!
A leader of the new wave of comedians, an ex-barrister who got sacked for working on his comedy set. So expect clever and hilarious stuff! He also has a secret he'll be sharing with us on the day... "Gloriously funny" - chortle.
Think of Tony Hancock on speed and you won't be far off! Brilliant misdirection.
Last year Adrian trawled through the entrants for the BBC New Comedy Award to find his pick for best up-and-coming comic. One man stood out, and he ended up winning second prize in the National competition on the night. Welshman Tommy Rowson has an easy style and something different to talk about. He rounds off our comedy bill very nicely!
These comics will (probably) be your new favourites after today...PLUS,
SINGER/PIANIST: Mark Dawson
Mark is from Bournemouth, er... which is (probably) largely irrelevant! More relevant is that he's a very engaging young chap with bags of talent and a great voice. He takes requests and has a huge piano-bar repertoire. Could (probably) turn into a sing-along quite easily!
AND special guests; Singer/Songwriter Steve Anthony with Roger Cawkwell; guitar, cello, flute, some songs (including one or two atheist/humanist ones written specially for the occasion!...(probably!)
A SELECTION of in-house talent, with a variety of music, sketches, stand-up and songs! The Rev Dick Ed will start proceedings with a LAAG sermon to all of us heathens, followed by Richard Francis, Jason Swanson, and who knows what impromptu acts might follow...! (Helen Palmer had gamely agreed to do some stand-up, but will be away on holiday. Well don't worry folks, chances are we'll do another talent show in the not too distant, so no escape for Helen ;-))
(Hopefully no one will read this last bit above - CLHG Chair ;-) )
AND OF COURSE ......There will also be plenty of prizes and surprises.......
Drinks are normal London pub prices (as opposed to some highly inflated Central London prices) - Lagers £3.90
(Carlsberg, probably the best lager in the world, £3.00 for us LAAGers until 7pm!), wine = £4, bottles £16. Food is available - reasonably priced & varied, plenty of veggie options. £5 tapas, mains from £8, Full menu here.
Members of the public may be let in, but we can stay and party on til late (m
usic and dance floor). 3 am license (they may choose to close earlier).
As a thank-you, LAAG organisers have subsidised this so that we can keep the price to only £10, (and the discounted Carlsberg means the more you drink the more you save - any excuse eh?!)
(Payment in advance via Paypal when you RSVP... If you can't use paypal then let us know via email.)
When you RSVP, please indicate if you intend to eat as the boat needs to know for catering purposes.
Travel: The boat is directly opposite Temple tube i.e 1 min away. There is planned engineering work on the Central Line (closed between North Acton and West Ruislip) and on the Northern Line (closed between Colindale and Hampstead) replacement buses will be running. Full details here.
HERE are photos of how to find the boat from Temple station , and we'll sign-post on the night with MEETUP signs from temple Pier, as there are several boats moored there. We will be on 'BAR & CO' Boat, it's the smaller one, moored on the RHS.
