International Women's Day Conference - The Oppression & Resilience of Women

Central London Humanists, Conway Hall Ethical Society and the National Secular Society are pleased to announce a joint event to celebrate International Women's Day.

Please register here on Meetup to let your friends know you are going but we also need you to register on Eventbrite so we can get total numbers for the conference from our 3 host groups. There is no charge to register. We are delighted to announce over 100 people are now registered to attend but there is still room for a few more.

International Women's Day Conference - The Oppression... Tickets, London - Eventbrite

Our Conference - The Oppression and Resilience of Women will celebrate women's achievements in the arts, science and politics. We will also look at health, wealth and education and how culture, men and religions can impede women. We will be highlighting the appalling oppression effecting many women in the 21st century and the positive achievements of women despite the many challenges they face and we will end the day with some comedy.

Our morning session will concentrate on such issues as education, health and wealth. The afternoon will look at how the arts, film, satire, comedy and social media can highlight problems facing women and help towards solving them.

N.B. We realise that some men feel a conference about women is not for them but trust us it’s for you too, we want you there and we want you to show you care about certain issues. As an incentive to get more men along any woman bringing a male friend will receive a surprise gift as will any man turning up of his own volition.

We have a fantastic line up of speakers for the conference they include,

At yesterday's event, and also at Wednesday's screening of 'The Honour Diaries', mention was made of the honour abuse, and murder of Banaz. I watched the film about her 'Banaz - a Love Story' in my workplace a few weeks ago - it was being shown as a training video to public sector workers. It is a deeply moving, harrowing story. I urge you to watch it and to encourage others to do so. Whether it is as a result of culture, religion, ignorance, or a mix of all three, this barbaric practice has to be stopped!
