Social Meetup for New Members

This regular bi-monthly social is aimed at those who have recently joined the Central London Humanists, or have never met us before.

Our members and committee will be on hand to answer questions about humanism, explain why we are humanists, what we believe and what we do as a group. The group is also a partner group of the British Humanist Association (BHA). The main purpose of the evening is to meet and chat with like minded people.

Some of us will arrive at 6.00 p.m. straight after work and others will arrive throughout the evening, so there is no specific time to be there, and often a group of us are still having our final discussion at closing time.

We usually meet by the high tables near the right hand entrance to the pub. There should be Humanist materials on the tables to help you find us.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our lively and friendly group.

For our existing members a voluntary donation of £2 is suggested as per the main social. There is no voluntary donation requested from new members.

Stimulating, but venue far too noisy, and the seating arrangements not conducive to circulating, forgot to suggest one of the larger late-night coffee houses (Caffe Nero on Piccadilly near the Circus?), enjoyed myself though, met some interesting people, and the range of topics was wide enough to encourage future attendance.

Have only just sent off membership form, but I'll make every effort to turn up. Meanwhile would those attending please consider how to go about forming a new ethos to replace existing religions? Perhaps a meritocracy based on good works?

You can't be married and a bachelor at the same time, just as you can't be an atheist and believe in a god at the same time. Not believing in a god is not part of the definition of humanist. Some people reserve their religiosity to things that can coexist with humanism, because they have no decisive bearing on their ethical or moral views.

Looking forward to meeting all of our new members. Although I won't be there until after 7pm, some of our experienced members will be there to welcome you.
I know that Rumit will be there from 6pm, and hope that Andre, Damian and Dave will be there so early as possible. By mid evening it will be buzzing.
