Central London Humanist Walk and Museum visit

Our first walk of 2014 will be a short one embracing St James and Green Parks as well as an introduction to the Tate Britain http://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-britain , where I’m currently thinking of walking around the Turner and Constable section, but I’ll go with the flow of opinion on the day. I’m planning to visit for an hour and people can wander off on their own or just relax chatting in the café. Meet at Pimlico tube station (Victoria Line, this station doesn’t have disabled access) at 12.30 finishing at Green Park tube. The walk first takes us through Bessborough and Riverside Park gardens before arriving at the museum just after 1pm. Afterwards we’ll snake though some other small garden areas as we go around the back of Westminster Abbey, heading in to St James’s Park to admire any spring flowers and the wildfowl on the lake. We’ll then pass by Buckingham Palace and finish at a café near to Green Park tube station (Victoria, Piccadilly and Jubilee lines). We should finish by 3.30pm, if not earlier.
Our walks are designed to explore new areas and provide a setting for people to meet and chat to old and new friends, whilst getting a little exercise as well. The museum and bird watching are extras this time. We’ll do a collection as per usual with a voluntary donation of £2 suggested, though you may prefer to donate to the museum.

Don't know much about art, but found Tate interesting, stroll enjoyable, but best, for me, was the lively conversation, especially at the coffeehouse.

London looked beautiful under the bright blue sky and intense sunshine. As always, David organised the walk extremely well. It was a lovely way of spending a Sunday afternoon with so many friendly and intelligent people.

I've had to deal with a blockage at the house and wouldn't be able to arrive at 12:30. See you at the next one!

I'd much prefer a canalside or woodland walk, something requiring hiking gear, but this'll do for starters as I'ml lacking in sources of intelligent conversation, looking forward to seeing you all, think freely...........

It's going to be a lovely day tomorrow, with no need for any excessive clothing, which is great. Intelligent, free-thinking, conversation, with humour thrown in, is a given ... and we look forward to meeting you, G.L. :-)

Am interested, but what if weather inclement?

There's no such thing as bad (inclement) weather ... just inappropriate clothing ;-)

Arun - are you doing the walk tomorrow? It'll be good to catch up with you on London, rather than Tromso territory ;-)

Not an option to start at 1 so people can do the Conway Hall lecture first?

    March 3, 2014

hi Kieron, no but i will go straight after the lecture to the museum (S also wanted to do both) , see also my comment later in the list)

Hi Wilemien, yes I saw your comment but I'd like to do the start of the walk. So I may just decide what to do Sunday morning. Leaving the talk early could be an option, unless it is very interesting, then I could join you and go straight to the museum. I'm not too bothered missing the Q n A bit, in fact,, that could be a bonus ;-)

    I'll be there :)

yep decided, I will leave Conway hall after the lecture with the Ethical society and I can guide people (by tube) to Tate Britian so if you also want to do both just join me :) (it takes a bit over half an hour to get from Conway hall to Tate Britian , so we will arrive there little past 1)

This is a cunning tactic, Dave. You could end up organising walks to restaurants, pubs, theatres, cinemas and talks :-) I am all for it. I just wish I were able to join you this time. Sometime soon hopefully.

You could finish your day of culture by coming to hear me singing at the QEH with the Chelsea Opera group, Bellini's 'I Capultetti e i Montecchi' (sort of
    Romeo & Juliette).
