This walk is a bit of a trial run for the first part of the Ancestors Trail later in the year and will give us more of an idea of the walking pace of a larger number of people (hopefully). It starts in Chingford and ends in Upshire and is about 6 miles long, including the walk down to the bus stop. To ensure it is different we’ll start off by heading for a café instead of a pub! It will also be very different because of the season. As usual our walks are mainly done for exercise, exploration and making new and meeting old friends.
Meet just outside Chingford Station at 1pm. First of all we’ll head to the Chingford Golf Course café on Bury Road on the edge of the forest. We’ll aim to leave the café at 2pm, so that if anyone wants to join us at 2pm they can do so. For anyone wanting a fuller and more varied menu the Royal Forest pub up the hill on Rangers Road may be preferable and there is also the more upmarket Butler's Retreat cafe there. We’ll then head through the forest for the pub at High Beach which we’ll pass by and continue on to Upshire, about 5 miles away. Here we will drop in at a pub for some well-deserved refreshment, before continuing on the last leg of the walk (less than a mile) in to the village where we can catch a bus to Waltham Cross (Liverpool Street Main Line). These buses go every 20 minutes, but with inexact timing. There are buses to Epping every hour from near the pub.
As usual we’ll do a voluntary collection for the group (£2 suggested).
